NORMA JEAN EDWARDS DECKELMAN

Norma Jean Edwards Deckelman, 81, died Aug. 2, 2012 in Galloway.  Norma worked as a telephone operator in the Memphis area for 14 years and then as an independent contractor cleaning and detailing newly built homes for several area contractors prior to retiring and becoming a homemaker. She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law: Lillian (Byron) Long and Grandsons: William and Mitchell Long. She was preceded in death by her husband: Thadus Eugene Deckelman, parents: Archie and Shelley Edwards and sister: Allene Andersen. A Graveside Celebration of Life Service was held at Northridge Woodhaven Cemetery Aug. 4. Online Condolences may be left for the family at www.northridgefh.com. EUGENE F. RODEN

Eugene F. Roden, of Covington died on Aug. 5, 2012. He was born Dec. 3, 1922 at Pulaski, Giles County to Jerome Abernathy and Vada Bass Roden. He graduated from The University of Tennessee in Mechanical Engineering and began his career working at the Y-12 atomic plant in the Manhattan Project at Oak Ridge in 1944 as the project was getting under way. He later worked for the Memphis District Corps of Engineers and was a 39-year employee of the Naval Air Station in Millington, where he was Director of Engineering for 18 years. He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Covington and was a 40-plus year member of the University Club of Memphis. He leaves his wife of 68 years, Maurine McCalla Roden, a daughter, Linda Roden Tolley (Rusty) of Millington and two granddaughters, Charlotte Tolley of Knoxville, and Mary Tolley Martin (Kevin) of Ashville, N.C. Visitation was held from 2 p.m. until 4 p.m. on Wednesday, August 8 at the Covington Funeral Home. Private graveside services will be held at a later time at the Maplewood Cemetery in Pulaski. Memorials may be sent to the Tipton County Public Library or to the charity of the donor’s choice.
