MEMPHIS — The Millington Trojans finally took the field to start the 2012 season after a week a tragedy. Dealing with the death of teammate Dana Payne, the Trojans made the trip to Kirby High School to play the Cougars. Despite miscues with the new-look offense, the Millington defense kept Kirby in neutral leading to a 31-6 win for the Trojans.

CJ Harris got Millington on the scoreboard with an interception return for a touchdown. And to conclude the scoring senior safety George Odum made a pick and ran 76 yards to the end zone. The Trojans dedicated the game and the entire season to the memory of No. 87 Dana Payne. The sophomore passed away from an injury suffered in practice. The Millington players paid tribute to Payne and family throughout the night and with the No. 87 on their helmet.

Millington will host the Bartlett Panthers Aug. 31 with kickoff scheduled for 7 p.m.
