The Brighton Cardinals got into the win column Friday night with a 49-24 win over the Raleigh-Egypt Pharaohs. The Pharaohs traveled to Brighton and held a 24-21 lead at halftime. But the Cardinals stormed out with 21 points in the third quarter sparked by a Brady Stewart to Malcolm Terry 40-yard TD pass. Then Brighton’s Antonio Dickerson scored twice in the period to give Brighton control of the contest. Then Stewart iced the game with two more touchdown passes in the fourth quarter contacting with Artez Harris from 63 yards and Dickerson with a 25-yard pass. Harris had six catches for 128 yards. The Cardinals (1-1) are off this week before returning to action Sept. 7 against Covington.
In Covington Friday night, the host Chargers used defense to gain control of the contest against Tipton County rival Munford. Two earlier interceptions led to Covington touchdowns en route to a 49-7 win. DaiQuon Norfork had the big night for Covington rushing for two scores and 150 yards. The Cougars (1-1) got a score from T.J. Plymouth in the third quarter on a 15-yard catch from Hunter Harden. The Cougars travel this week to play Hardin County.
Finally the Tipton-Rosemark Academy Rebels opened the 2012 season hosting Halls. The visitors left TRA with a 35-18 victory. Halls jumped out 21-0 before Rebel Logan Stewart caught a 24-yard TD pass from Austin Chambers. TRA had the final two scores of the night courtesy of a Stewart TD run and Collin McCain interception return of 50 yards to the house. The Rebels return to action this Friday at Fayette Academy.
