Inside Look at Millington Applebee’s

By Thomas Sellers Jr.

The doors at 3472 Highway 51 North finally reopened for business Aug. 27.

Back in mid 2011, Perkins abruptly closed because of a nationwide bankruptcy. Then news spread months later that another national eatery would occupy the building.

And last month Applebee’s was welcomed to the Millington and South Tipton neighborhood with an official ribbon cutting hosted by the Millington Area Chamber of Commerce.

“We’re all excited about (opening),” General Manager Zak Abdallat said. “Everyone is happy and excited in the community, everyone we’ve came across. We’re happy to be here. We hope to make a great impact on the community, on the economy and leave a positive footprint in the community.”

On Aug. 25 Applebee’s hosted an invitation only preview. Expecting nearly 300, a few extra guest made the turnout nearly 400. Abdallat said that was another sign of the support Millington has shown since plans were announced for Applebee’s to come to Flag City.

“The Millington Police Department, Millington Area Chamber of Commerce, City Hall, Millington Fire Department, they’ve all been very helpful,” he said.

In the matter of weeks the façade of the old building transformed a Perkins look to the designs of Applebee’s. Inside the trademark bar was set up and multiple dining areas were constructed to seat 147.

Abdallat said owner Andy Patel made sure the latest Applebee’s in the Memphis area was top-notch, colorful and inviting to the residents in Millington and the surrounding communities.

Applebee’s presence will be felt in the market from North Shelby County and all through Tipton County.

“We’re looking forward to moving into Covington next,” Abdallat concluded. “We’re lucky the people like our food and service. We thrive on trying to do our best, providing the best food, the best beverage and service to the community. After people have worked a long and hard day, they deserve a break at the end. And we want to save them some gas money too.”

The Millington Applebee’s is opened from 11 a.m. to 1 a.m., Monday through Thursday, from 11 a.m. to 2 a.m. on Fridays and Saturdays, and from 11 a.m. to midnight on Sundays.
