Dorothy McDonald greets Memphis Tiger starter Alan Cross during Fan Fest in August. Cross, former Trojan, caught a TD pass during the Artkansas State game this season.

Last month area resident Dorothy McDonald was greeted by Memphis Tiger long snapper  and full back Alan Cross at the 2012 Tiger FanFest.

Because of rain in the area that day, the event was moved indoors on the campus’ Mike Rose Theater. Cross, a former Millington Trojan, signed autographs and greeted fans throughout the day.

Cross and his Tiger teammates began the 2012 season Sept. 1 against the UT-Martin Skyhawks. Memphis is currently 0-3 with Cross catching a touchdown in the Arkansas State game.

In high school, Cross was an academic and athletic standout. He earned four varsity letters as a linebacker, tight end and long snapper for head coaches Hank Hawkins and Chris Michael while at Millington High School. Cross received All-Region honors on both offense and defense in his Trojan career.

After his senior season, Cross was selected to participate in the annual AutoZone Liberty Bowl High School All-Star Game. That year he also was named All-District in basketball leading to his honor as the 2011 Millington Star Male Athlete of the Year.

Cross and the Tigers continue the 2012 season traveling to Durham, N.C. this Saturday to play the ACC’s Duke Blue Devils. Memphis is under first-year Head Coach Justin Fuente.
