Munford Queens of 13-3A Again

DYER COUNTY — The Munford Lady Cougars are once again District 13-3A champions.

Last Thursday, Munford won two games in the Dyer County Gymnasium to earn another league title and sixth straight trip to Regionals.

The Lady Ciugars faced Hardin County in the first game of the District Tournament. They went on to win in three sets, 25-16, 25-15 and 25-10, lead by the play of senior and district MVP Sami Jo Schulz. She was dominating the middle with blocks and spikes

Next up in the title game, the Lady Cougars took on Tipton County the Brighton Lady Cardinals. Despite standout moments from Brighton’s Hailey Shepard the Lady Cougars were victorious 25-16, 25-21 and 25-17. Sophomore Cecily Gable led the way for Munford as one of the leading scorers throughout the three sets. Gable was named MVP and was joined on the All-Tournament Team by teammates Schulz, Lauren Zvolanek, and Kelsey Hale. The Lady Cardinals to make the All-Tournament Team were Shepard, Lulu Smith and Lauren Judy.

In Bartlett last week the District 14-3A championship was settled. The Arlington Lady Tigers were defeated in the District 14-3A championship game by Bartlett in three sets. The Lady Panthers earned the No. 1 seed in this week’s Regional that was played on Tuesday night in Bartlett.

Bartlett played District 13-3A runner up Brighton. The Lady Tigers advanced to Regionals to play District 13-3A champions Munford.
