Coming Up Roses

The moment the Millington Central High School Homecoming Court has been waiting for finally happen Friday night. What was orginially scheduled for Oct. 5 was delayed because of strong thunderstorms.

But under a crisp, cool and calm sky, the public address announcer finally read the name of the 2012 Homecoming Queen across the Millington Football Stadium.

In a rose-colored dress, Erin Clark was the name called over the microphone surpring the senior.

“It feels great,” she said holding on to her father Wilbert’s arm. “It feels great to be Queen. I’ve been watching it all these years and I always wanted to be Queen.

“It’s surprising because these girls are great,” Clark added. “It was a good competition. They’re all amazing and popular.”

Clark is used to competition playing basketball and track for the Lady Trojans. She also volunteers for the Susan G. Komen breast cancer foundation. Clark is also a member of the National Honor Society and is active in JROTC.

Clark received her crown from last year’s Queen Wanda Crawford. Also a part of the 2012 Homecoming Court were Lauren Robinson (Roderick Robinson),
