Calendar of Events Nov. 1

Paying Tribute — One Faith Center Center Candlelight Vigil on Sept.11 2012.  Elder Barron Martin is Pastor and Founder, lead the crowd in a candlelight vigil in honor of our fallen Veteran and One Faith Christian Center Day. The March began at the corner of Raleigh Millington and Pleasant View and continued to One Faith Christian Center where pray from Pastor Terrial  Wakefield, Pastor Carl Payne,  and Pastor H. Hughes. The ceremony ended with a beautiful solo, by Jasmine Fentress, God, Bless America. Sherry Taylor Lane a faithful member stated, that her classmates  was killed this tragic 9/11,  and she share with the media. Lt. James Joseph Ferguson (39)Lt.Colonel Jerry D. Dickeson were her classmate in high school, in Durant, Mississippi active in the Army Military Branch. Pastor Barron, would like thank the City of Millington for declaring Sept. 11, One Faith Christian Center Day, and hopes the the ministry will continue to impact the community. 


Play Date @ Millington

The Millington Trojans will host a Play Date this Saturday at the William Osteen Gymnasium. The event kicks off at 10 a.m. and will feature teams like Covington and Arlington. The host Trojans have also invited MASE, Douglass and ECS. For more information, call 873-8100.


Month of November

Fall Adult Co-ed Recreational Volleyball are underway. Games will be played on Saturdays starting Jan. 12.  There will be a 10 game schedule with a single elimination tournament following completion of the regular season. The season will approximately be over the first weekend of April. All games will be played at the Millington Civic Center Gym. Each team will have 10 players. Rosters will be frozen at the start of the season. You will not be able to add and/or drop players. Three girls and three guys on the court at a time. You can play with more girls than guys but not vice versa.

Be sure to include your name, category of dish (breakfast, lunch, diner, dessert, snack, drink, etc), the recipe (broken down into ingredients and steps), and a low-resolution photo of the dish if you happen to have one. Millington Arts and Recreation is announcing several new programs this month. Senior Computer Class: Learn the basics of using a computer! If you have not used a computer before, or have difficulty using one, this is the class for you. This is a great way to communicate with your family, especially your precious grandchildren!  Classes will be held on Mondays and Thursdays from 10:30 a.m. until 12:30 p.m., and is free of charge. Penmanship:  Don’t let your children miss out on this important skill. Children are no longer being taught how to write in cursive.  Allow your child to learn his/her real penmanship. This class is completely free! For more information, call 873-5770.


Game Time: Have fun and reduce stress levels with a great way to relax and unwind! This is a time to enjoy board games and card games, such as checkers, chess, monopoly, scrabble, pictionary, and more! No electronic games will be allowed. Game time is free and available Mondays from 10 a.m.-4 p.m., Wednesdays from 4 p.m.-8 p.m., and Fridays from 10 a.m.-4 p.m.  For more information, call 873-5770.


Self Defense with John Camacho: Learn how to defend yourself in a compromising situation.  Classes begin Tuesday, November 5.  Schedule isTuesday 6 p.m.-8 p.m., and Saturday noon-2 p.m.There is a fee.  First month is free for everyone. Bridge: Instruction as to how to learn to play the card game Bridge.  Classes will be held on Wednesdays from 11 a.m.-2 p.m. There is a fee.  For more information, call 873-5770.


Nov. 2-4

The 22nd Annual James Logan Colbert Rendezvous will be held Nov. 2-4 at Meeman Shelby Forest State Park. Take a step back into the 1740-1840 time period and walk in someone else’s moccasins. Enjoy tomahawk throws, vendors, novelty shoots and age old games. It’s open to the public from Saturday 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Sunday 9 a.m. to noon. For those camping, there will be a fee. Nov. 3

The Rosemark Richland Masonic Lodge will have a Spaghetti Dinner Saturday from 2 to 6 p.m. The fundraiser will benefit our annual Thanksgiving Boxes to assist the needy.  Donations are accepted and the public is invited. For more information, contact


The Millington Library Boosters will have their final book sale of 2012 on Saturday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Civic Center on Wilkinsville Road.  All proceeds go to support our library.  The next sale will be in February 2013.  For  more information, call Bitha Luze at 872-3635.


The St. William’s Women’s  Club is having their Annual Harvest Dinner and Silent Auction on Sat. Nov. 3, 2012.  We will be serving Turkey & Dressing and all the trimmings.  The Auction will be from 4  to 6:30 p.m. and dinner will be served starting at 5:30.  Nov. 6 

Family Skate Night will be held on Nov. 16 from 6 – 9 p.m. at the Millington Civic Center gym. Entertainment will be provided by Look Left Entertainment.  There is a fee.  Non-skating parents are admitted free.  Concessions will be sold.  The school with the most students in attendance will win the traveling Skate Night trophy.


Nov. 7

West Union C.P. Church will host its annual Craft Bazaar Nov. 10 from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. at 3099 West Union. The deadline to register is Nov. 7. Spaces are available at a fee with one table and two chairs provided. More tables are available at an additional fee. For more information, call Sharon Hance 876-3265.

Nov. 9 

Register for the Co-Ed Dodgeball Tournament, presented by Millington Arts and Recreation and MWR, to be held Saturday, Nov. 17 at North 82 Gym. This tournament is open to ages 14 and up. Rosters must have 6-8 players per team, and teams must have at least three girls on the court at the start of the game.There is a cost. Nov. 10 

The Millington Arts and Recreation Department is hosting a Veterans Day Program and Dessert Reception at Baker Community Center.  The event begins at 11 a.m., and is free to all veterans and their families.  Tickets are available for for non-military who wish to attend the event.  For more information on the event, or to become a dessert sponsor, call 873-5770, or e-mail

Nov. 24  

Did you know that the Saturday following Thanksgiving is “Small Business Saturday”? The Millington Arts and Recreation Department will host a Holiday Market on Saturday, Nov. 24 at Baker Community Center to encourage shoppers to support local, small businesses.  If you make hand-made Christmas gifts, own a small business, offer private lessons, or anything in between, this event is for you! The Market will be open from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m.

Vendor booths are available on a first come, first served basis for a fee (includes one six-foot table and two chairs).  Because space is limited, only one vendor from specialized businesses (i.e. Mary Kay, 31, Scentsy, etc.) will be admitted in the Market.  Vendor packets are available at Baker Community Center.  For more information, call 873-5770 or e-mail There is no admission for shoppers.
