There are two unbeaten teams entering the Class 5A State Football Playoffs in Tennessee.

And the Munford Cougars drew one of them this Friday heading to Jackson North Side. The Indians went 10-0 this season along with Beech.

JNS’ path to a perfect record included a 54-14 win over the Cougars last month. But Munford Head Coach Matt Saunders has developed a reputation for having his teams perform better in rematches.

With a creative spread offense the Cougars have scored at least 28 points in their five wins including 122 points against Memphis Northside and Frayser. But the in the Cougars’ five defeats this season opponents have averaged 45 points.

The No. 8 seeded Cougars will need quarterback Hunter Harden to spread the ball around the field and have a balanced running attack featuring D’Marious Exum to keep the Indians and their standout quarterback Adam Craig off the field.

Munford’s offense will have to find ways to move the ball against a JNS defense that has held six opponents under 10 points.

The Indians feature an athletic defensive unit and have several playmakers on the offensive side of the ball. Craig manages the unit with his passing and running abilities.

The No. 1 vs. No. 8 game will take place at Jackson North Side  with a 7 p.m. kickoff. Other area teams in the the Class 5A quad are Ridgeway as the No. 2 seed and Craigmont the No. 3 seed taking on Hardin County.

The winner of the Munford/JNS game will take on the winner of the No. 4 Hamilton vs. No. 5 Henry County game.
