Month of November

Fall Adult Co-ed Recreational Volleyball are underway. Games will be played on Saturdays starting Jan. 12.  There will be a 10 game schedule with a single elimination tournament following completion of the regular season. The season will approximately be over the first weekend of April. All games will be played at the Millington Civic Center Gym. Each team will have 10 players. Rosters will be frozen at the start of the season. You will not be able to add and/or drop players. Three girls and three guys on the court at a time. You can play with more girls than guys but not vice versa.


Send your favorite holiday recipes, and we’ll post them to our Facebook page during the holiday season! Be sure to include your name, category of dish (breakfast, lunch, diner, dessert, snack, drink, etc), the recipe (broken down into ingredients and steps), and a low-resolution photo of the dish if you happen to have one. Millington Arts and Recreation is announcing several new programs this month. Senior Computer Class: Learn the basics of using a computer! If you have not used a computer before, or have difficulty using one, this is the class for you. This is a great way to communicate with your family, especially your precious grandchildren!  Classes will be held on Mondays and Thursdays from 10:30 a.m. until 12:30 p.m., and is free of charge. Game Time: Have fun and reduce stress levels with a great way to relax and unwind! This is a time to enjoy board games and card games, such as checkers, chess, monopoly, scrabble, pictionary, and more! No electronic games will be allowed. Game time is free and available Mondays from 10 a.m.-4 p.m., Wednesdays from 4 p.m.-8 p.m., and Fridays from 10 a.m.-4 p.m.  For more information, call 873-5770.


Come by the YMCA and mail your Santa letter between Nov. 23-Dec. 15. Santa’s Elf will reply to all letters. Then come and join us on Friday, Dec. 7 for the Annual Craft Fair between 9 a.m. -1 p.m., if you can’t make it on Friday, try Saturday, Dec. 8 from 10 a.m. -1 p.m. While you’re here, bring the children for cookies, pictures and games with Santa. For the athletes, start early and participate in our Santa Swim by swimming 1 mile or try or Mistletoe Mini-triathlon which includes swimming 100 yards; biking (indoor cycle) 6 miles and finishing with a  mile walk/run (treadmill),  the nursery will be available. Nov. 17

Embury United Methodist Church presents the “Christmas in the Forest” Annual Bazaar Saturday from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Located west of Millington, Embury United Methodist Church is at 2060 Locke-Cuba Road. There will be crafts, Christmas décor, gifts, baked goods, relishes, jellies and a White Elephant Sale, serving soups and cornbread, hot dogs including drink and dessert for lunch from 10:30 a.m. to

Nov. 19

Play Pink: Police and Fire Softball Tournament to benefit Karen Craig will be held Nov. 24 with the tournament starting at 8 a.m. The deadline for teams to signup is Nov. 19 with a fee of $200. Join the fight against breast cancer by signing up for the tournament. The proceeds collected from the tournament will be donated to Craig, a Millington Police Department secretary who was recently diagnosed with breast cancer. Nov. 20 

A Community Thanksgiving Worship Service will be held at First Baptist Church on Nov. 20 at 7 p.m. at Crosspointe Baptist. Minister Mark Tuso will deliver the sermon. All who attend are asked to bring a canned item in donation to the Millington Food Pantry housed at First Methodist Church. Mature Adults Ballroom Dance (ages 30 and up) will be held at the Baker Community Center in Millington. Music will be by The VIPs from the hours of 7-10 p.m. There is a fee and bring finger foods. For more information, contact Betty or Everett Clark at 872-3508.


Nov. 23

The Kiwanis Club of Millington’s annual Christmas Tree sales begins on Friday.  Sales location is the Millington Farmers Market. Kiwanis members are present from 4-8 p.m., Monday-Friday; 9 a.m. – 9 p.m. on Saturday; and 1 p.m. until 6 p.m. on Sunday.  Sales will continue until all trees are sold. All proceeds go back into the community for various service projects.  Projects include scholarship for a MCHS graduating senior, support for the annual Christmas Basket program, the Millington Crisis Center, Boy Scouts, Ronald McDonald House, Hope House- just to name a few. Kiwanis International includes more than 8,000 clubs with nearly 400,000 members in more than 85 nations.  This past year, Kiwanis clubs donated more than $100 million and almost 6 million volunteer hours for community-service projects.


Nov. 24  

Did you know that the Saturday following Thanksgiving is “Small Business Saturday”? The Millington Arts and Recreation Department will host a Holiday Market on Saturday, Nov. 24 at Baker Community Center to encourage shoppers to support local, small businesses.  If you make hand-made Christmas gifts, own a small business, offer private lessons, or anything in between, this event is for you! The Market will be open from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m.

Vendor booths are available on a first come, first served basis for a fee (includes one six-foot table and two chairs).  Because space is limited, only one vendor from specialized businesses (i.e. Mary Kay, 31, Scentsy, etc.) will be admitted in the Market.  Vendor packets are available at Baker Community Center.  For more information, call 873-5770 or e-mail There is no admission for shoppers.


Dec. 8

Cookies with Santa will be held Saturday  from 11:30 a.m. -1 p.m. Come spend the afternoon with Santa at the Millington YMCA.  Reindeer games and pictures with Santa will be taken from 11:30-noon, followed by cookie decorating until 1. Dec. 7-8

Christmas Crafts Fair will be held Friday, 9 a.m.-1 p.m. and Saturday, from 10 a.m.-1 p.m. Come for homemade crafts, ornaments, jellies and gift ideas for purchase. Dec. 8

Mistletoe Mini-triathlon will be held Saturday. Swim 100 yards in the Millington Family YMCA’s  Indoor pool; bike 6 miles on an Indoor cycle and walk/run 1 mile on a treadmill. First Heat starts at 8 a.m. Register by Nov. 16 to receive a T-shirt and category winners receive a trophy. Wear your best Holiday hat. There is an entry fee.  Register at the Welcome Center.
