Signals of things to come

By Thomas Sellers Jr.

Since October, the construction of Veterans Parkway started to take shape rapidly. From Highway 51 near West Union Road to Church Street heading toward the railroad tracks, motorist in Millington have seen the new pathway form. Now traffic signals, freshly painted arrows and new intersections greet those behind the wheel. Before motorist had to learn the new road, crews closed down Church Street just over the railroad tracks on Oct. 29 for a week of construction. Before the Nov. 5 deadline the portion of Veterans Parkway to Navy Road was open relieving the huge morning and afternoon traffic jams off Highway 51. This week the construction at the Navy Road track began.  Although the grand opening hosted with guest Congressman Steve Fincher and Shelby County Mayor Mark Luttrell by the Millington Area Chamber of Commerce and Industrial Development Board took place Tuesday, the road is still being worked on throughout town.
