Munford’s first and only goalie picks Mississippi College

By Thomas Sellers Jr.

Alex Selby puts on her Mississippi College cap during her signing ceremony Thursday at Munford.

Munford Lady Cougar Soccer player Alex Selby held a signing ceremony today in the Munford Cafeteria with her parents/coaches Richard and Cheryl by her side. Munford Athletic Director Steve McCullough joined the family for Alex’s celebration of selecting Mississippi College in Clinton, Miss., over several other schools.

Selby said her reason for picking the Division III Choctaws over Division I school to continue her soccer career came down to academics. She will major in biochemistry.

Selby leaves high school as part of the District 13-3A champion Lady Cougars. The program started four years ago under the direction of her parents. Selby, who played goalie in competitive ball, was the keeper for the Lady Cougars most of her career.

Alex has started every game in the program’s history and tallied 1,037 saves in those four years. Munford was district runner up twice and champs this past season.
