A few months ago, Beckman his wife set down with The Millington Star’s Brittaney Spahr for a Business as Usual feature. Here is that interview with Ms. Jeanne and the late Pops.
It Was Just A Dream
Jeanne Beckman owner of Pops Bar and Grill says” Owning a bar has always been a dream of mine.” It is a dream that was made a reality by her husband Pop.
“We used to come to eat at this place and then one day it was closed. Jeanne had just recently lost her 29 year career at K-Mart and Pop was retired.
“I told him this is what I wanted to do and he said lets do it.”
Jeanne has lived in Tipton County her entire live and Pop retired from the Navy and asked to be stationed here, “I came here because Millington had all the benefits,” says Pop.
Pop is originally from St. Louis and spent his naval career on the east coast. There is a sense of home when you enter Pops.
“I want people to understand that yes this is a bar but we have a family atmosphere.”
Pops received an award from the Millington Star for the Best Breakfast in Town. At Pops everything is made fresh everyday, and on Wednesdays you can get a plate lunch cooked with all of Jeanne’s love.
“I believe love is the best ingredient,” says Jeanne.
There is a lot of love around Pops that started with the wedding of Pop and Jeanne right there in the bar; love that radiates from Jeanne. Most of the staff are blood relatives to Pop and Jeanne but Jeanne says
“If you work for me you are family. We are more family than anything here and that goes for my staff as well as my customers.”
Everyone that enters Pops is greeted with a smile and a how are you. Pop and Jeanne went through four months of renovations to make Jeanne’s dream come true.
“He made my dream come true.”
