Heart-warming Gesture

Star Staff ReportsNorthaven donation 1 Northaven donations 2

HOPE FOR THE MID-SOUTH, a comprehensive ministry, blessed the children of Northaven Elementary with over 40 sweaters, several hats, and gloves as the weather turns cold. Cheryl Bone, cofounder of HMS and Minister of Outreach, and Elizabeth Kowalski delivered the garments to Lori Johnson, school counselor. These garments are part of the Something Special Just 4 Me program.

It includes handmade clothing, mostly made from leftover yarn and material, shelf stable No One Goes Hungry boxes for children and homeless, and canned jellies and jams made from fruit others do not want. Their apple butter is made without sugar so it can be given to diabetic senior citizens with no additives, just like grandma used to make.

HMS is looking for seamstresses, knitters, and crocheters who would like to collect yarn and material as well as make it into usuable garments. Contact Ms. Bone at 626-2092 for more information on this program or to become a host site for the hands up food ministry in the Mid-South.
