The next meeting of the Lucy Garden Club will be on Jan. 7, 2013 at the Lucy Wedding Chapel at 6185 Chase Road in Lucy.   The meeting starts at 6:30 p.m. with guest speaker, Carl Wayne Hardeman. His presentation will be on “Sustainable Gardening Methods.” Hardeman has been a member of the Memphis Area Master Gardeners Association since 2005. He is well known in our community for his humorous talks on gardening. Hardeman has been on the WKNO Family Plot series.

He is a co-founder of the Collierville Victory Garden which uses sustainable gardening methods to grow produce for the Memphis Area Food Bank, the Collierville Food Pantry and for various families and other organizations that, at no charge, receive high quality fresh produce. On 4,500 square feet of raised beds, the CVG had delivered almost 5,800 pounds of food this year, which is more than one pound for every square foot of gardening space.

They have a cut flower bed from which they deliver cut flowers weekly to local hospice and nursing homes to hopefully brighten the day of the staff and their residents.

All Northern Shelby County and Tipton County neighbors are encouraged to come out to Hardeman’s speech. There is no charge and refreshments will be served immediately after Hardeman’s presentation.   For more information or need directions call Program Director, Tom Mashour, at 872-3593 or 337-0046.
