Gift Exchange:

Month of January

Sign up today for The Millington Family YMCA’s Youth Coed Soccer League, ages 4 to 15 yrs. Registration will be held Jan. 7-Feb. 10. Program is April 6–May 25. Participants will receive jersey, shorts & socks. We also have our Little Kickers, ages 2 & 3. Structured Parent/Child Interaction where child will learn introductory skills in the sport of soccer. Motor development will also be emphasized. 30 minute sessions (Time TBA). Child receives an official t-shirt and achievement trophy. Register now through February – Register now through February for youth baseball, softball, and T-ball, ages: 4-17. Practice begins in mid March. The season will last from mid-May through mid-July. There is a fee. For more information call 873-5770.


Watercolor Art Class: Learn the art of watercolor from National Award Winner Barrie Foster beginning January 17.  Classes will be held on Thursdays from 2 until 4 p.m., and there is a fee per class.  For more information and a list of supplies needed for the class, call 873-5770.


Senior Computer Class: Learn the basics of using a computer! If you have not used a computer before, or have difficulty using one, this is the class for you.  This is a great way to communicate with your family, especially your precious grandchildren!  Classes will be held on Mondays and Thursdays from 10:30 a.m. until 12:30 p.m., and there is a fee (cost of materials). For more information, call 873-5770.


Penmanship:  Don’t let your children miss out on this important skill.  Children are no longer being taught how to write in cursive in many schools.  Allow your child to learn his/her real penmanship.  This class is completely free! For more information, call 873-5770.


Game Time: Have fun and reduce stress levels with a great way to relax and unwind! This is a time to enjoy board games and card games, such as Checkers, Chess, Monopoly, Scrabble, Pictionary, and more. No electronic games will be allowed. Game time is free and available Mondays from 10 a.m.-4 p.m., Wednesdays from 4-8 p.m., and Fridays from 10am-4pm. For more information, call 873-5770.


Self Defense with John Camacho: Learn how to defend yourself in a compromising situation.  Schedule: Tuesday 6-8 p.m., and Saturday noon-2 p.m.  There are fees.  First month is free for everyone. Wear loose clothing and tennis shoes.  For more information, call 873-5770.


Ballroom Dance Lessons: Join us from 6:00pm-8:00pm every Wednesday for proper instruction of the art of ballroom dancing! Fees: $6.00 per person, per class.  For more information, please call 873-5770.


Bridge: Instruction as to how to learn to play the card game Bridge.  Classes will be held on Wednesdays from 11 a.m.-2 p.m.  There is a fee.  For more information, call 873-5770.


Jan. 10 

The South Tipton Chamber of Commerce will host it’s  Second Thursday Lunch-at the new Dairy Queen in Atoka off Highway 51 at 11:30 a.m.


Jan. 12

The South Tipton Chamber of Commerce will be hosting a Ribbon Cutting at 9 a.m. for All About Scrubs, located at 1921 Highway 51 South, Suite E., Covington.


Jan. 14

The Millington Book Chat Club will meet at 7 p.m. at the home of Mrs. Jane Donnelly. The program will be brought by Jimmy Ogel, president of the Shelby County Historical Society. The topic will be the River Front. For more information, call 872-7812.


Jan. 15 

Mature Adults Ballroom Dance (ages 30 and up), will be held at the Baker Community Center in Millington on Tuesday. Music will be by The VIPs from 7-10 p.m. There is a fee and bring finger foods. For more information, contact Betty or Everett Clark at 872-3508.


Jan. 17

The National Active & Retired Federal EmployeesAssociation, Chapter 1382 meeting will be held at noon, Thursday, Jan. 17 at Old Timers Restaurant in Millington. The guest speaker will be Buddy Chapman, Head of the SeniorBsafe Organization which is an initiative of CrimeStoppers of Memphis and Shelby County. Jan. 18 

Family Skate Night will be held from 6– 9 p.m. at the Millington Civic Center gym. Entertainment will be provided by Look Left Entertainment. There is an admission fee and includes the use of our skates.  Non-skating parents are admitted free.  Concessions will be sold.  The school with the most students in attendance will win the traveling Skate Night trophy.


Jan. 23

Jill K. Collins, RD, CDE will hold her next free diabetes class will be Jan. 23 from 10-11 at the Millington Library located at 4858 Navy Road. She will be the one conducting the class and I am a registered dietitian and a certified diabetes educator. This class is free and open to the public.
