Since reopening in the fall of 2011, Memphis International Raceway has roared back into the motorsport’s scene with extreme sports and high-octane racing excitement.  The 200-plus events hosted at MIR in 2012 attracted 300,000-plus visitors changing the face of sports and entertainment in Shelby County and the Mid-South; plus providing a much-needed boost to the region’s economy.

“The first full racing season at Memphis International Raceway was an incredible success,” said Pam Kendrick Vice President and General Manager.  “But if you liked what you saw in 2012, you will love what we have planned for 2013!  The 2013 season offers an incredible variety of events with something for everyone from the seasoned driver to the racing spectator,”   said Kendrick.

The racing season cranks up in early February with Xtreme Xperience Drive or Ride.  This is a perfect opportunity for thrill seekers that takes place on MIR’s challenging 1.8 mile road course.  The racing action continues full throttle through the first of December.  Some of the highlights include these national events:

MIR is also pleased to announce a five year agreement with Rusty Wallace that gives race enthusiasts a personal, adrenaline-filled, NASCAR experience of a lifetime on the three-quarter mile paved oval at Memphis International Raceway.

In addition to a robust racing season, MIR will focus on expanding their Race on the Track, Not on the Streets campaign to discourage illegal street racing.  Street racing is a growing epidemic across the country.  Each year increasing numbers of youth are injured or killed by this senseless activity.   “Memphis International Raceway is committed to discouraging street racing and proud to have racing superstar, Clay Millican as spokesperson for our Race on the Track not the Street Campaign to bring awareness to the dangers of illegal street racing,” said Kendrick.

The only legal way to satisfy a need for speed is in a controlled environment like that at Memphis International Raceway.  Attend any Test and Tune sessions or Midnight Madness event and you can see what your favorite car or bike can run in the quarter-mile on MIR’s historic drag strip.   Drivers must possess a valid driver’s license and the vehicle must pass a tech inspection for safety. “Satisfy your need for speed legally and in a controlled race environment with safety personnel as your catch net.  Join us in keeping our streets safe and race on the track at Memphis International Raceway,” said Kendrick.

“We are thrilled to be here and able to offer the racers and race fans in this area a first class racing experience,” Kendrick said.  “With 200+ events scheduled and new ones added daily, I’m sure we have something to offer everyone.  Come feel the excitement for yourself at Memphis International Raceway – Where the Racing Rocks.”
