Tipton-Rosemark Academy recently announced its Middle School and High School Basketball Homecoming Courts.

Month of January
Kids in Christ the King is a youth program at West Union Cumberland Presbyterian Church. It is for children ages 3 years old to 17 years old and meets every Wednesday night from 6-8 p.m. Dinner is served at 6 p.m. The first session was Jan. 24 in the Family Living Center. The Rosemark Reds 10AA Competitive Baseball Team is looking for players to complete their Spring 2013 roster. The team plays in local USSSA tournaments. The Reds practice primarily in Millington. Players can’t turn 11 before May 1, 2013 to be eligible. For more information, call 581-0791.
Sign up today for The Millington Family YMCA’s Youth Coed Soccer League, ages 4 to 15 yrs. Registration will be held Jan. 7-Feb. 10. Program is April 6–May 25. Participants will receive jersey, shorts & socks. We also have our Little Kickers, ages 2 & 3. Structured Parent/Child Interaction where child will learn introductory skills in the sport of soccer. Motor development will also be emphasized. 30 minute sessions (Time TBA). Child receives an official t-shirt and achievement trophy. Watercolor Art Class: Learn the art of watercolor from National Award Winner Barrie Foster beginning January 17. Classes will be held on Thursdays from 2 until 4 p.m., and there is a fee per class. For more information and a list of supplies needed for the class, call 873-5770.
Senior Computer Class: Learn the basics of using a computer! If you have not used a computer before, or have difficulty using one, this is the class for you. This is a great way to communicate with your family, especially your precious grandchildren! Penmanship: Don’t let your children miss out on this important skill. Children are no longer being taught how to write in cursive in many schools. Allow your child to learn his/her real penmanship. This class is completely free! For more information, call 873-5770.
Game Time: Have fun and reduce stress levels with a great way to relax and unwind! This is a time to enjoy board games and card games, such as Checkers, Chess, Monopoly, Scrabble, Pictionary, and more. No electronic games will be allowed. Beyond The Ashes, a vocal trio from Nashville, will be hosted by West Union Cumberland Presbyterian Church on Feb. 3 at 6 p.m. There willl be a potluck dinner following the performance.
The next meeting of the Lucy Garden Club will be on Feb. 4. The guest speaker will be Jim Crouder, the Mid-South’s “Plant Doctor,” from the Dan West Garden Centers. Crouder will be discussing “Insecticides and Herbicides,” everything you need to know to keep your veggies and flowers bug free. In addition, how to get eliminate pesky weeds that plagues your lawn and gardens. Lucy Garden Club meets at the Lucy Wedding Chapel, 8185 Chase Road in Lucy. The meetings starts promptly at 6:30 p.m. with our guest speaker followed by refreshments and than the business meeting. The annual luncheon for the Fashion Show and Card Party will be held Feb. 5 at St. Anne Episcoal Church located at 4063 Sykes Road in Millington starting at 11 a.m. Tickets are available prior to the event. The Millington Arts and Recreation Department is hosting its sixth annual Valentine’s Dinner and Concert at 5 p.m. on Saturday, for all area senior citizens. The event, held at Baker Community Center, will feature a concert by Tori Reynolds and Jack and Jule’ Dunham, featuring love songs and oldies, and a dinner, which will include house salad with dressing, spiral sliced ham or cranberry chicken, homemade dressing, mashed potatoes and gravy, dinner rolls, and an array of desserts. There is a cost. Tickets may be purchased in the office at Baker or reservations must be made by calling the department at 873-5770 so we can prepare the proper amount of food. The Millington Family YMCA will host its annual Polar Plunge on Saturday at 10 a.m. to support the We Build People Campaign. Participants will jump, or walk into our outdoor pool for a good cause, then be treated to a breakfast donated by Old Timers Restaurant. The first 50 that register will receive a Polar Plunge long sleeve T-shirt. All proceeds will be used to send kids to camp, provide after school care for working parents and memberships for families in need. The YMCA is located at 7725 E. Navy Circle in Millington. AARP offers free tax preparation assistance at six locations in Shelby County from February 1st through April 17. Volunteers prepare tax returns and file them electronically with the IRS. No appointments are necessary. It is first served with priority going to those age 60 or higher. Come early because the daily capacity of each site fills up quickly.

The Men’s Annual Sportsman’s Feast will be held at Crosspointe Baptist Church on Friday starting at 5:45 p.m. March 1. Dinner will begin at 6:30.
