Playhouse 51 and VFW presents ‘Love Letters’

The Millington VFW Men’s Auxiliary and Playhouse 51 are teaming up in a fund raising partnership for veteran’s charities with the production “Love Letters” by A. R. Gurney.

“Love Letters” was Playhouse 51’s first production 10 years ago, and the theater is very excited to stage this production at the Millington VFW at 4681 Cuba Millington road in Millington. Love Letters will be part of a dinner theater production with doors opening at 6 p.m. and dinner served around 7 p.m.

Tickets are $20 a person in advance at the VFW and $25/ $45 per couple at the VFW on Valentine’s Day.

“Playhouse 51 is very excited to be in a partnership with the VFW to raise funds for veteran’s charities,” said Danny Armitage Executive Director of Playhouse 51. “This is another opportunity to bring theater to the community and enhance the quality of life in the Millington community.”

Love Letters tells the story of a romantic relationship starting in 1937 as told through a series of letters written between Andy and Melissa. Kate Armitage returns to stage as Melissa. Kate has been seen on stage in a number of shows including Goodbye Charlie, Inherit the Wind, Rumors and A Christmas Story. Kate is currently serving as the Operations Director for Playhouse 51.

Danny Armitage was last seen on stage in Inherit the Wind and has appeared in or directed more than 10 shows with Playhouse 51. He is recreating the role as Andy from the original Playhouse 51 production 10 years ago. Danny serves as the Executive Director for Playhouse 51.

Love Letters is directed and crewed by Mike Evans and Rhonda Jones.

Playhouse 51’s production of Love Letters will next be performed at the Florida Grande Resort in Webster Florida this March. This will be the first time a Playhouse 51 production has been performed outside of the George Harvell Civic Center since the original production.

Playhouse 51 is a non-profit community theatre that produces four shows per year.  The organization meets the third Tuesday of each month in the main auditorium at the Millington Civic Center at 7 p.m.
