Millington Alderman and Pastor Thomas McGhee and Pastor Parisha Stigger, coordinator of 2013 Mid-South Convoy of Hope attend the event at First United Church in Millington Northern Area Vision Casting.

Mid-South Convoy of Hope rolled into Millington last Thursday for a Vision Casting to inform this area of the opportunities to serve as volunteers and support the outreach.

Millington Alderman and Pastor Thomas McGhee welcomed the guests and prayed the opening prayer. Sherry Henson, MSCOH Admin. Asst. and member of West Union CP Church, shared her experiences in being a member of the 2012 Team. Jessie Denton, USN Retired and from Lighthouse Fellowship AG, MSCOH Groceries Team, also shared and closed in prayer. More than 100 volunteers from this area participated in 2012 in 108 degree heat which shut down the outreach after two hours.

On Sept. 7, the Mid-South Convoy of Hope in conjunction with local churches, businesses, and community organizations will host a Convoy of Hope outreach that will distribute multiple free services, food and clothing to Mid South residents. This year’s event will be held indoors at the Cook Convention Center, downtown Memphis.

This outreach is a free event that includes distribution of more than 60,000 pounds of food providing a week of meals to thousands of families throughout the Mid-South area. It also includes at no cost to our honored guests – lunch, live entertainment, children’s carnival area, medical and dental services and screenings, community services, haircuts, career services, groceries, clothing, family portraits and more. It will bring together over 2,000 volunteers from local churches, organizations, and businesses. Many volunteers came from the Millington-South Tipton area in 2012.

This is an exciting opportunity for Mid-South residents to unite and do something positive to combat the growing problems plaguing our community. All guests at the outreach will be greeted with open arms and will be given nourishment for both their body and soul. All recipients are ‘honored guests’ and everything is done to make a difference in their lives. To volunteer, donate, or provide financial gifts: call 888.926.4592 for more information.

Refreshments for the event were provided by All Star Wings, Billie Gene’s Kakery, McAlister’s Deli, and Hope for the Mid-South Food Ministry. Photos were by Ashlee Bone, Student at MCHS, as a service to the ministry. Ashlee is a member of Team Hope, the volunteer youth division of Hope for the Mid South.
