Star Staff Report
On Monday, news spread across the city that potential layoffs were coming for city of Millington employees.
It recently became public that Millington was facing a nearly $400,000 budget shortfall. And one of the scenarios to help relieve the budget issue was laying-off some police officers and firefighters. Millington is considering laying-off nearly 18 city workers.
Even closing one of the four fire stations in the city has been tossed around. As of press time, no layoffs were official or approved.
The Board of Alderman and Mayor were preparing to discuss other options to balance the budget like increasing property taxes or putting-off capital improvement projects.
The city of Millington has scheduled a special work session to discuss the budget issues tonight at 6 p.m., at City Hall and the public is invited. For more information, visit www.millingtontn.gov/ or call 872-2211.
