Richard Foster Elliott, 82, of Millington, died March 19, 2013 at the VA Medical Center Memphis. An Army Veteran, Mr. Elliott was proud to be a member of the 82nd Airborne. He spent most of his career in Memphis in the Automobile Business. He finished the last 10 years of his career with Jim Keras Automotive as their Sales Manager. Mr. Elliott was preceded in death by his wife of over 50 years, Pauline Elliott. Survivors include his son, James Wendell Elliott (Teresa) of Millington; granddaughters, Katie; and Becca; and his siblings Stanley; and Donnie. Funeral Services was held March 23 at Northridge Woodhaven Funeral Home. Interment will be at Northridge Woodhaven Cemetery. EDITH C. GLENN
Edith C. Glenn, 76, died March 14, 2013 at her Millington home. Mrs. Glenn is an Air Force Veteran, past President of the Millington Lion’s Club, past District Governor (District 12L) of the Lion’s Club. She is also a member of the Eastern Star, an Elder at West Union Cumberland Presbyterian Church, and the former owner/operator of ETC Awards in Millington. She earned her Associates degree at State Technical Institute at Memphis. Surviving Mrs. Glenn is her sister, Jean Shearer, her daughters, Vicki Green, and Kristi Green Owens, four grandchildren, Johnny J. Hupf, Rebecca L. Huggins, Samantha L. Houston, and Shawna M. Houston; and three great grandchildren, Winter, Aiyanna, and Ember. She was preceded in death by her husband, John L. Glenn, and her daughter, Pennye Houston. The family has planned a Celebration of Life Memorial Service was held March 25 at Northridge Woodhaven Funeral Home. A private interment was at West Union Cumberland Presbyterian Cemetery in Millington.
IONE ROBERTS McCORMICK
Ione Roberts McCormick, resident of the Braden Community and wife of Rex McCormick, Jr. departed this life March 14, 2013 at the Baptist Memorial Hospital in Memphis where she had been a patient for three months. She was 72 years of age and died following an extended illness. Services of Remembrance for Mrs. McCormick were conducted on March 18 at the Peebles West Funeral Chapel at Oakland with Bro. Ronnie Hughes, pastor of the Brunswick Baptist Church officiating. Interment followed in the Memorial Gardens Cemetery on Germantown Road in Bartlett. Arrangements were provided by Peebles Fayette County Funeral Homes & Cremation Center — West Chapel at Oakland. Mrs. McCormick was born June 7, 1940 in Adamsville, Tennessee. She was preceded in death by her parents, Tom C. Roberts and Burlene Sipes Roberts. She received her education in the McNairy County Public School System and was a resident of the Memphis area before moving to Fayette County 18 years ago. Mrs. McCormick was a homemaker throughout her life and in earlier years was employed by the First Tennessee Bank in Memphis before her retirement in 1988. She was of the Baptist faith and enjoyed sports, camping and outdoor activities throughout her life. She was a devoted supporter of the University of Memphis Basketball program and of the St. Louis Cardinals. Mrs. McCormick will be remembered for the deep love she possessed for her loved ones and the McCormick family expresses sincere thanks to the nurses and staff of the Baptist Memorial Hospital in Memphis for the care and respect shown to Mrs. McCormick during her extended illness. Mrs. McCormick is survived by her husband of 17 years, Rex Leon McCormick, Jr., retired mechanic and employee of the Aluma-Form Company in Memphis; five sons, Terry Wood (Sandra) of Collierville, Dell Wood of Braden, Derek Wood (Debra) of Atoka, Mike Wood (Sherrie) of Atoka, Kenny Wood of Memphis; three step-daughters, Rhonda Smith (Bob) of Selmer, Debbie Walker (Clark) of Counce, Regina Brewer of Jackson; two step-sons, Billy McCormick of Selmer, Jeff McCormick of Jackson; her sister, Joann Burke of Bemis; her brother, Tommy B. Roberts (Mary) of Braden; 17 grandchildren, 9 great grandchildren and her beloved pet poodle, “Daiquiri”. Those honored to serve as casketbearers were Tyler Wood, Heath Wood, Bobby Spillman, Mitchell Carter, Greg Roberts and Ryan Acuff. Lewis Murphy, Jr., 91, of Drummonds, passed away on Saturday, March 16, 2013 at his home. Graveside services were held March 20 at Magnolia Gardens Cemetery. He was a Marine Veteran of World War II and the retired owner of El Toro Taco in Millington. He is survived by his wife, Mary Louise Murphy; seven daughters, Liberty Dawn Rasar of Millington, Georgia Ann Murphy of Memphis and Pamela Sue Clarke of South Carolina, Anita McGill of Munford, Elizabeth Gail Wright and Mary Dianne Watkins, both of Drummonds and Lisa Ann Hughes of Brighton; three sons, Patrick Murphy of Memphis and Michael Murphy and Gerald Murphy, both of Drummonds; 20 grandchildren and 26 great grandchildren.
