Millington Choir donation 3-21Building Blocks

Recently the Millington Central High School Choir Department received another donation from the community as it tries to raise the money to perform at Carnige Hall in New York. Hal Williford CEO of Memphis Stone and Gravel on right and Executive Vice President Allan Parks presented MCHS Principal Mark Neal with a check for the Choir.

 

Spring Saturdays

The Millington Crisis Center, located at 8133 Wilkinsville Road, will have a yard sale (rain or shine) the first Saturday of each month from 8 a.m.-noon and on April 13 during the City-Wide Yard Sale. For more information or to donate, call 872-HELP (4357).

 

April 12

Any band interested in performing in the 2013 Concert Series at the Millington Farmers’ Market must submit the following materials and information by April 12 to: Millington Arts & Recreation; 2013 Concert Series; 7942 Church Street ; Millington, TN 38053

Absolutely no band packet will be accepted incomplete.  All required materials and information MUST be submitted in order to be considered for the concert series. April 13

St. Annes Episcopal Church will be holding their annual Attic Treasures and Plant Sale on Saturday, April 13 from 8 a.m.-2 p.m.  Bargains on gently worn clothing, furniture, houswares, knick knacks, books and toys.  Plants range from small seedlings to beautiful potted plants.  St. Annes is located at 4063 Sykes Road in Millington. Young Life will be having it’s Fifth Annual Yard Sale on April 13 at 5021 Easley.  The money we raise goes towards helping kids go to Young Life summer camp.  Young Life needs items for the yard sale. If you have small items, you can arrange a time to drop them off. If you have large items you would like to donate, we would love to come pick them up for you. The Millington Crisis Center and St. William Catholic Church are joining forces to raise money for the Crisis Center and the church.  The Sixth Annual Chinese Auction will be held on Saturday at 5:30 p.m. at the Baker Community Center located at 7942 Church Street in Millington.  The auction will be preceded by a spaghetti dinner cooked by the Knights of Columbus. Price of the dinner is $10 per person and includes 20 tickets used for the Chinese Auction. Bidders win by placing their numbered tickets in the container in front of the item they wish to bid on.  As tickets are drawn the number of the winning ticket is called and that person claims their item.  This is a fun evening and everyone in the community is invited.  Advance tickets are now available in the church office or by contacting Bitha Luze at 872-3635 or Shirley Maes at 647-6111.  Additional auction tickets can be purchased the night of the auction. Also anyone wishing to donate an item for the auction can drop it off at the church office.

 

Fish Fry will be held at West Union Cumberland Presbyterian Church April 13, 4:30-7 p.m. Also, Bethel Renaissance Choir will be hosted by West Union Cunberland Presbyterian Church on April 21 at 6 p.m. A potluck dinner will follow.

 

 

The Citywide Yard Sale date is set for Saturday April 13 from 7a.m.- noon. Set up at Baker Community Center. There is a fee for 6-foot table and two chairs or bring your own. Limited to 25 participants. Register at Baker Community Center. Sponsored by Millington City Beautiful Commission.

 

April  16 

Mature Adults Ballroom Dance (ages 30 and up) will be held at the Baker Community Center in Millington on Tuesday. Music will be by The VIPs from the hours  7-10 p.m. There is a fee and bring finger foods. For more information, contact Betty or Everett Clark at 872-3508.

 

April 18

The Millington American Legion Post 252 will hold their monthly meeting on Thursday at 7 p.m. at the Baker Community Center on Church Street. The meeting is open to the public.  All veterans are encouraged to attend.  For more information, call 230-3870.

 

The Millington Library Boosters will have their next quarterly meeting on Thursday at 6:30 p.m. at the library. For more information, call Bitha Luze at 872-3635.

April 19

Family Skate Night will be held on April 19 from 6– 9 p.m. at the Millington Civic Center gym. Entertainment will be provided by Look Left Entertainment.  There is a admission  and includes the use of our skates.  Non-skating parents are admitted free.  Concessions will be sold.  The school with the most students in attendance will win the traveling Skate Night trophy.

 

 

April 19-20

The St. William’s Women’s club will be having a yard sale on Friday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. and on Saturday from 7 a.m. to 1 p.m.  The sale will be inside the Annex located at the corner of Easley and Chambers Street, next door to St. Williams.

 

April 20

Attention Millington residence,  Sam Curry Jr., lives in Millington and his family are long time residents. Come support Sam on April 20 at 10 a.m. at First Baptist Church in Millington for Cystic Fibrosis. Sam was diagnosed at three weeks, already has damage to his baby lungs and pancreas. The Munford High School Marching Band will hold its Second Annual Wing Festival in the Munford High School Parking Lot on Saturday. This Festival will have a stage with live bands, choirs, and other musical acts, games for kids and adults, Drive for your School sponsored by Ford, an auction, Dunk Tank, and of course a Chicken Wing Competition. April 20-21

Millington First United Methodist Church located at 8029 Wilkinsville Road in Millington will host a study Saturday from 9 a.m. to noon in Williams Hall. The Study: A Hopeful Earth-Faith, Science and the Message of Jesus by Sally Dyck and Sarah Ehrman, led by Nathan Rawls and others.   Special guest appearances by Thomas Christie, Millington city manager, Hank Hawkins, Millington city alderman and Jeremy Rochelle, Millington Parks and Recreation. Then on Sunday, services will be from 8:30 and 10:50 a.m. Celebration of Creation Care Sunday, to coincide with Earth Day, Monday, April 22.  Sermon by Rev. Ed White. Focus on praise for God’s creation and the individuals responsibilities as stewards of God’s creation.  Reception and memorial tribute for Bob deMarigny at 10 a.m. in Williams Hall.

 

April 21

The Upper Canaan Women’s Fellowship/Outreach Ministry will host its annual Seven Hats Christian Women Should Wear to Keep Them in Perfect Peace Program Sunday at 2 p.m. Seven spirit-filled speakers will adorn Spring hats and deliver God’s Word. The hats are: Put on the Hat of Prayer and Meditation, Model the Hat of Caring and Sharing, Work in the Hat of Loyalty and Dedication, Extend the Hat of Forgiveness and Thanksgiving, Keep on the Hat of Faith and Hope, Enjoy the Hat of Peace and Joy, and Share the Hat of Love and Salvation. Musical selections will be rendered, prayers prayed, scriptures read, poems recited, and food served. Please come and share in this glorious occasion. The next free diabetes class will be April 24 from 10-11 a.m. at the Millington Library located at 4858 Navy Road. Jill K. Collins, RD, CDE will be the one conducting the class and she is a registered dietitian and a certified diabetes educator. This class is free and open to the public. April 26 

Movies at the Market: Millington Arts and Recreation is proud to announce “Movies at the Market” at the Millington Farmers’ Market on April 26.  We will be showing “Hotel Transylvania” starting at 7:45 p.m.  There is an admission per person, and includes popcorn, tea, lemonade, and water.  Bring your blankets and lawn chairs, and enjoy an evening of family, fun, and entertainment.  For more information, call 873-5770.

 

April 27

Citywide Clean Up presented by Millington City Beautiful. Meet at Aycock Park at 8:30 a.m., T-shirt, gloves and bags will be given, lunch will be provided following the clean up! For more information, please call 317-0888.

 

International Goat Days Festival Information –  Are you interested in volunteering to help with the festival this year? The Lucy Garden Club will be having a plant sale on April 27 from 9 a.m.- 2 p.m. at 4639 Cedar Hills Drive, in Millington. The plants will be from member’s gardens and seedlings grown by one of the members. The plants available will include a variety of vegetables, herbs, annuals and perennials.

 

Carnival is coming to Millington Elementary located at 6445 William Osteen Drive on Saturday. The event will be from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. with concessiosn, inflataables, games, vendors and silent auction. There will be more than temed baskets and good to bid on.
