Ms. Nelson’s second grade class at E.E. Jeter elementary school was recently recognized for collecting the most cans, during the Kids Kan food drive.  Big thanks from the Millington Food Pantry.

Spring Saturdays
The Millington Crisis Center, located at 8133 Wilkinsville Road, will have a yard sale (rain or shine) the first Saturday of each month from 8 a.m.-noon. For more information or to donate, call 872-HELP (4357).

Month of May
St. William’s Catholic Church is having a golf tournament June 1 with a shotgun start at 2 p.m. at the Forest Hill Golf Course, Tate Road in Drummonds. There are fees for the tournament.  You can go to WWW.CDOM.ORG/WEB_SITES/STWILLIAM/DEFAULT.HTML for a registration form.  Registration forms and checks must be in to the office at 4932 Easley Ave, Millington, TN 38053 by May 18. The kickoff will be May 31, 2013 with a spaghetti dinner and silent auction furnished by the Knights Of Columbus at the Family Life Center at Church from 6 to 8 p.m.  Tickets are available at the door.  Cost is $7 per person.  For more information, call Kenny McCain at 378-4505.
Watercolor Art Class: Learn the art of watercolor from National Award Winner Barrie Foster began Jan. 17.  Classes will be held on Thursdays from 2 until 4 p.m., and there is a fee per class.  For more information and a list of supplies needed for the class, call 873-5770.

Senior Computer Class: Learn the basics of using a computer! If you have not used a computer before, or have difficulty using one, this is the class for you.  This is a great way to communicate with your family, especially your precious grandchildren!  Classes will be held on Mondays and Thursdays from 10:30 a.m. until 12:30 p.m., and there is a fee (cost of materials). For more information, call 873-5770.

International Goat Days Festival Information –  Are you interested in volunteering to help with the festival this year? We are in need of committee members to coordinate the following events/areas: Horseshoe tournament, Antique Tractor Show, Gin, Citizen Car Show.  For more information on participating or volunteering for the 2013 International Goat Days Festival, please e-mail Samantha at samantha.mccracken@yahoo.com.

Kids in Christ the King is a youth program at West Union Cumberland Presbyterian Church. It is for children ages 3 years old to 17 years old and meets every Wednesday night from 6-8 p.m. Dinner is served at 6 p.m. The first session was Jan. 24 in the Family Living Center. Grandparents Raising Grandchildren: This support group is dedicated to grandparents raising their grandchildren.  Share your experiences, advice, and stories with others on Fridays from 11 a.m. until 12:30pm beginning February 15.  For more information or to register for this class, please call 873-5770.

Grace Baptist Church of Rosemark located at 9171 Brunswick Road in Millington will host the Dixie Echoes in concert on Thursday evening at 7 p.m. No admission will be charged. For more information, call 475-6798.

May 11
Millington City Beautiful opens it annual Gardening Seminar Series on Saturday, May 11, at 11 a.m. at the Millington Farmer’s Market. Susan Cranford, a Tipton County Master Gardener and owner of The Garden Groomers Landscaping will be the speaker.  Her topic is “Landscape Design”.  The seminar is free to the public.

Shriners Hospitals For Children will host a free screening clinic on May 11 from 9 am–noon at the Al Chymia Shrine Center, 5770 Shelby Oaks Drive in Memphis. Shriners Hospitals treat children with orthopedic problems, spinal cord injuries, cleft palate and burn victims. Care is provided regardless of the patients’ ability to pay. Shriners Hospitals For Children operate twenty two hospitals that offer leading edge treatment for children with orthopedic problems, cleft lip and palate, spinal cord injuries and burn victims.  Children up to age 18 are eligible for care at Shriners Hospitals For Children and acceptance as a patient is based solely on a child’s medical needs.  Although insurance is accepted, care is provided regardless of the patients’ ability to pay.  To learn more, a visit to  www.shrinershospitals.org will provide detailed information.  A free screening clinic will be held May 11 from 9 a.m.– noon at the Al Chymia Shrine Center, 5770 Shelby Oaks Drive in Memphis.  If you know a child the Shriners can help please let their family know about this free screening clinic. For children that are treated at Shriners Hospitals, it is Love To The Rescue.

May 11-12
Tupelo Park and Zoo will host the Eighth Annual White Buffalo Pow Wow May 11-12. Events start at 9 a.m. both days. Tupelo Park is located at 2272 North Coley Road in Tupelo, Miss. May 13
The Rosemark Civic Club will meet in Memorial Hall on Monday at 7 p.m.  Information will be presented about the Rosemark Historic District.  Other community updates will be given.  All interested citizens are invited and encouraged to attend. For more information, call 829-2598.

The Millington Book Chat Club will meet in the home of Mrs. Nathan Rawls at 7 p.m. The program will consist of a talk about the Memphis Riverfront by Jimmy Oglee, chairman of the Shelby County Historical Commission. For more information, call 872-7812.

May 14
Munford High School cordially invites the public to the Class of 2013 Baccalaureate service on May 14 at 6:30 p.m. in the Munford High School gymnasium.

May 16
The National Active & Retired Federal Employees Association, Chapter 1382 meeting will be held at noon, Thursday at Old Timers Restaurant in Millington. The guest speaker will be Jack Foraker, Fire Marshal for the city of Millington.  For more information, call Carolyn Cribbis at 413-7123.

May 18
On Saturday at 8 a.m., a Churchwide Yard Sale will be held at Hampton A.M.C. Located at 7835 Armour Road in Millington. Tables are available for a fee. For more information, call 872-2675.

Household Hazardous Waste Collection will be held Saturday at Brighton High School parking lot from 9 a.m. until 1 p.m. You can dispose of all those left over household chemicals, lawn and garden products and automotive materials that you’ve never know what to do with. This event is open to all Tennessee residents. “Household Hazardous Waste” is defined as unwanted products from your home, automobile, garden or lawn that may be corrosive, flammable, toxic or reactive. Businesses, farms, schools, and churches may participate by appointment only by calling (615) 643-3170

Munford Baptist Church located at 1253 Munford Ave. presents Vacation Bible School  2013 Kingdom Rock from June 2– 7 from 6– 8p.m. for Kindergarten to fifth grade. Kids will experience and epic adventure with inspiring music, exciting discoveries, and energizing games!  They will develop a rock-solid faith as they discover how to stand strong for God. CONCERTS BY THE GREEN – GLEN EAGLE GOLF COURSE
Every Friday in May – Concerts by the Green Concerts by the Green is a series of free concert events held every Friday in May 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. at the Glen Eagle Golf Course on Attu Street in Millington. Admission is free and event is open to public. Bring your blankets and lawn chairs. Food and beverage items will be available for purchase. Picnic baskets will be allowed, no coolers please.
