Trojan Gold: Parents and boosters shine spotlight on Millington Basketball Seniors one more night at annual banquet

Last month the Millington Trojan Basketball program celebrated the 2012-13 season with a banquet at the Millington Pig N Whistle. After fellowship and meal of barbecue and sides, Assistant Coach Aaron Hudson took the floor to address the Booster Club, friends, parents and players about the journey from a caterpillar to a butterfly. Nine of the Trojans’ 10 seniors were in attendance for the event. Hudson directed his message especially to them with most of them preparing to head off to college. He expressed to them to remember the three Ds of becoming a butterfly of Direction, Discipline and Defense. The Millington seniors learned those lessons the last four years under Hudson and Head Coach Rob Sabau.
The Class of 2013 was one of the winningest groups in Millington Basketball history winning the 2009 Shelby County Freshmen championship. And a recent highlight was the announcement of three Trojans DeCarlos Holmes, El Paso Pitts and Jerick Newsome signing to play at Alcorn State. The first Division I signings from Trojans Basketball since David Jordan in 2000 to Mississippi Valley State.
Sabau announced that to the crowd after handing out the team awards. The coaching staff awarded the Hustle, Sportsmanship and Academic awards. The first honoree of the night was Kelby Hollowell for his hustle on the court and giving maximum effort from game one to the district tournament.
Sportsmanship Award was given to Kendrick Carter. One of the captains of the team, Carter was a vocal leader and went the entire season without a technical foul. The Academic Award was given to Jordan Browning. The junior guard is a sharp shooter on the court and sharp in the classroom with a 4.0 grade point average.
The final three awards of the night were voted on by the team. The Offensive MVP went to Pitts. The Defensive MVP was point guard Tevin Oliver. And the team MVP wa
