Jimmy Ogle, president of the Shelby County Historical Commission spoke about the history of Memphis and the Mississippi River to members of the Millington Book Chat Club on May 13.

Spring Saturdays
The Millington Crisis Center, located at 8133 Wilkinsville Road, will have a yard sale (rain or shine) the first Saturday of each month from 8 a.m.-noon. For more information or to donate, call 872-HELP (4357).

The Exchange Club of Millington meets at Old Timer’s Restaurant in Millington at noon every second and fourth Wednesday of the month. Guest are always welcomed. For more information, call 872-8888.

Senior Computer Class: Learn the basics of using a computer! If you have not used a computer before, or have difficulty using one, this is the class for you.  This is a great way to communicate with your family, especially your precious grandchildren!  Classes will be held on Mondays and Thursdays from 10:30 a.m. until 12:30 p.m., and there is a fee (cost of materials). For more information, call 873-5770.

International Goat Days Festival Information –  Are you interested in volunteering to help with the festival this year? Kids in Christ the King is a youth program at West Union Cumberland Presbyterian Church. It is for children ages 3 years old to 17 years old and meets every Wednesday night from 6-8 p.m. Dinner is served at 6 p.m. The first session was Jan. 24 in the Family Living Center. Grandparents Raising Grandchildren: This support group is dedicated to grandparents raising their grandchildren.  Share your experiences, advice, and stories with others on Fridays from 11 a.m. until 12:30pm beginning February 15.  For more information or to register for this class, please call 873-5770.

Month of June
Anne Enochs offers three art classes beginning in June: a 10 lesson drawing class offered in the daytime (Mondays from 9:30 a.m. to noon) and also in the evening (Tuesdays from 5:30  to 8 p.m.).  The drawing classes begin on June 3-4 and run through Aug. 12-13.  Both at the Germantown Hobby Lobby. Anne is also offering a color class (part one-eight lessons) on Monday evenings at her studio from 6:30 to 9 p.m. beginning June 3 and ending  July 22. For more information contact Anne at 383-9339.

Faith Baptist Church located at 900 Simmons Road will host Vacation Bible School
Son West Roundup June 9-13 from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. for ages 3 years old to sixth graders. Kids will have a Rip Roaring time with Jesus  on the Son West Roundup based on Hebrews 13:8 NIV-Jesus is the same yesterday, today and forever. For more information, call 837-2683.

Playhouse 51 presents the adult comedy “Bedside Manners” by Derek Benfield June 7, 8, 14, and 15 at 7:30 p.m. and June 9 at 2 p.m. at the Harvell Civic Center. When Ferris reluctantly agreed to look after his sister’s seedy out-of-the-way hotel while she’s on a brief vacation, he had no idea what he was getting himself into.  Two young couples arrive having seen an ad for the hotel in a parish newsletter.  Roger’s wife Helen is supposed to be home taking care of his goldfish.  Sally’s husband Geoff is supposed to be home working in his garden.  But they’re not at home.  Helen’s with Geoff and  Roger’s with Sally.  Ferris soon discovers their secrets and  spends a good deal of time and energy in a dizzy round of hilarious events running from room to room to lobby to restaurant trying  to keep everyone separated – – –  at some financial reward to himself, of course.  “Hotel work is hectic. June 6-7
Munford Baptist Church located at 1253 Munford Ave. presents Vacation Bible School  2013 Kingdom Rock from June 2– 7 from 6– 8p.m. for Kindergarten to fifth grade. Kids will experience and epic adventure with inspiring music, exciting discoveries, and energizing games!  They will develop a rock-solid faith as they discover how to stand strong for God. The first week of Summer Reading program at the Millington Public Library will feature the event Ronald McDonald Magic Show “Book Time” at Thursday at 1 p.m. On Friday, at 11 a.m., Mr. Bond, Science Guy’s “Spectacular Science Show!” will be held. For more information, call Dorothy at 872-1585.

June 8
Yard sale for West Union Cumberland Presbyterian Church will be held June 8 at 3099 West Union. There is a fee for a booth, one table and two chairs. Items can be donated, setup is inside and outside. Concession stand will be open. For table reservations call Sharon Hance at 876-5757.

Millington City Beautiful Gardening Seminar will be held on  Saturday, June 8 at 11:00 a.m. at the Millington Farmer’s Market.  Joellen Dimond, a local horticulturist and member of the West TN. Urban Forestry Council will be our speaker.  Her topic is “Pruning”.    Please join us for a free and interesting morning at the Farmer’s Market.

June 12-13
Trustmark National Bank will be sponsoring an eight-hour AARP Safe Drivers course for seniors. The course is taught in two four-hour sessions beginning June 12 and ending June 13 at the Baker Community Center at 7942 Church Street. The class will begin at 9 a.m. each day. The course has a fee per person for members and for non-members. The material emphasizes the physical changes that occur at or about age 55 and how to compensate for them. It also covers life-saving preventative measures to use when driving. Participants with the certificate of completion may be eligible for auto insurance discounts. Pre-registration is required. Concerts by the Green Concerts by the Green is a series of free concert events held every Friday in May 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. at the Glen Eagle Golf Course on Attu Street in Millington. Admission is free and event is open to public. Bring your blankets and lawn chairs. Food and beverage items will be available for purchase. Picnic baskets will be allowed, no coolers please. Beginning July 8 through Sept. 30, the NSA Mid-South commissary will close on Monday and Tuesday. We know that any disruption in commissary operations will impact the NSA Mid-South community. Our commissary is not alone. The decision to reduce the operational hours of commissaries impacts nearly all commissaries with only a few overseas exceptions – commisaries where there are sufficient Local National employees to remain open. We appreciate your support and patience during this time.

Trojan Basketball Camp 2013 will be held June 17-20, 2013, 9 a.m. – noon and July 8-11, 2013 noon – 3 p.m. Millington Central High Basketball Camps are designed to not only enhance the individual’s skills, but also to improve one’s ability to interact with others. We provide fundamental individual instruction to each camper through a variety of coaching techniques and then incorporate those fundamentals into a team concept.  We strive  to provide campers an environment that emphasizes enthusiasm, energy and education.  Attendance at Trojan Basketball Camps will improve an athlete’s skill, insight and love of the game.
