Calendar of Events July 4

The Harry M. Crawford American Legion Post 252 Millington hosted 35 patients from the Memphis VA Hospital at the USA Stadium park in Millington on Saturday, June 15.
Post Commander of American Legion Post 252, “Big Dave” Sienkiewicz said, “This is one of several   picnics we do every year since 2003.
The VA Hospital brings these veterans up here, and our  members host them with a picnic, entertainment and games.”
About 35 people enjoyed the picnic with hot dogs, hamburgers, soda and chips as well as talented local entertainment.  The “Wise Men” performed a series of gospel and old time country ballads while a mother and daughter duo, Julia Durham and Tori Reynolds, sang a series of pop country songs.
The weather was perfect and a good time was had by all.  For more information about American Legion call Lee Buchschacher at 230-3870.

Summer Saturdays
The Millington Crisis Center, located at 8133 Wilkinsville Road, will have a yard sale (rain or shine) the first Saturday of each month from 8 a.m.-noon. For more information or to donate, call 872-HELP (4357).

Month of July
The Exchange Club of Millington meets at Old Timer’s Restaurant in Millington at noon every second and fourth Wednesday of the month. Guest are always welcomed. For more information, call 872-8888.

Drawing Made Easy: Instructor Mary S. Mitchell will provide you with the step-by-step instructions on the basics of drawing. After you gain experience and develop your abilities, we will try more difficult projects. Supplies needed are an ink pen or black fine tip marker and a pad of smooth heavy drawing paper or cardstock. There is a fee and the class meets at Baker Community Center in Room  2 each Monday from 5– 7 p.m.

Watercolor Art Class: Learn the art of watercolor from National Award Winner Barrie Foster.  Classes will be held on Thursdays from 2 until 4 p.m., and there is a fee.  For more information and a list of supplies needed for the class, or to register for this class, call 873-5770.

International Goat Days Festival Information –  Are you interested in volunteering to help with the festival this year? We are in need of committee members to coordinate the following events/areas: Horseshoe tournament, Antique Tractor Show, Gin, Citizen Car Show.  For more information on participating or volunteering for the 2013 International Goat Days Festival, please e-mail Samantha at samantha.mccracken@yahoo.com.

Grandparents Raising Grandchildren Support Group: This support group is dedicated to grandparents raising their grandchildren.  Share your experiences, advice, and stories with others on Friday, July 19 from 11 a.m. until 12:30 p.m.  For more information or to register for this class, call 873-5770.

Senior Computer Class: Learn the basics of using a computer! If you have not used a computer before, or have difficulty using one, this is the class for you.  This is a great way to communicate with your family, especially your precious grandchildren!  Classes will be held on Mondays and Thursdays from 10:30 a.m. until 12:30 p.m., and there is a fee (cost of materials). For more information, call 873-5770.

July 13
Millington City Beautiful Gardening Seminar will be held July 13 at  11 a.m at Millington Farmer’s Market. Carl Wayne Hardeman, Memphis Area Master Gardener and leader of Collierville Victory Garden will discuss “Raised Bed Gardening.”  Free to all interested in raised beds and community gardens. July 19
Family Skate Night will be held on July 19 from 6– 9 p.m. at the Millington Civic Center gym. Entertainment will be provided by Jordabella Entertainment.  Admission is $5 and includes the use of our skates.  Non-skating parents are admitted free.  Concessions will be sold.  The school with the most students in attendance will win the traveling Skate Night trophy!

July 23
Mature Adults Ballroom Dance (ages 30 and up) will be held at Baker Community Center in Millington on Tuesday. The music will be by The VIPs from hours of 7-10 p.m. There is a fee and bring finger foods. For more information, contact Betty or Everett Clark at 872-3508.

July 26
Movies at the Market: Millington Arts and Recreation is proud to announce “Movies at the Market” at the Millington Farmers’ Market on July 26.  We will be showing “Disney’s Brave” starting at 7:45 p.m.  There is an admission fee per person and includes all snacks and drinks.  Bring your blankets and lawn chairs, and enjoy an evening of family, fun, and entertainment.  For more information, call 873-5770.

July 27
Brighton AYSO Fall Soccer for boys and girls, ages 4-18, will be available to teach soccer at the Old Brighton High School July 27 from 10 a.m. to noon, Aug. 1, 8, and 9 from 6 to 7:30 p.m., and Aug. 3 and 10 from 10 a.m. to noon. There is a fee which includes soccer jersey, socks, trophy, and soccer accident insurance. For complete registration information, call 290-8187 or e-mail brightonsoccer@bigriver.net. Summer
Beginning July 8 through Sept. 30, the NSA Mid-South commissary will close on Monday and Tuesday. We know that any disruption in commissary operations will impact the NSA Mid-South community. Our commissary is not alone. The decision to reduce the operational hours of commissaries impacts nearly all commissaries with only a few overseas exceptions – commisaries where there are sufficient Local National employees to remain open. We appreciate your support and patience during this time.

Free movies every Tuesday and Wednesday during June and July courtesy of Cineplanet 16 and these fine South Tipton County Chamber of Commerce members. Tickets are to be picked up at the sponsoring businesses. On July 8 and 9 the movie will be Alvin and the Chipmunks (Chipwreck) sponsored by First Citizens Bank. Trojan Basketball Camp 2013 will be held July 8-11 from noon – 3 p.m. Millington Central High Basketball Camps are designed to not only enhance the individual’s skills, but also to improve one’s ability to interact with others. We provide fundamental individual instruction to each camper through a variety of coaching techniques and then incorporate those fundamentals into a team concept.  We strive  to provide campers an environment that emphasizes enthusiasm, energy and education.  Attendance at Trojan Basketball Camps will improve an athlete’s skill, insight and love of the game. Millington Central High Camps are held on the Millington Central High School campus in Millington.  Trojan Basketball camps will be held in Osteen Gymnasium.For more information, call Rob Sabau at 461-3464.

Brighton 100
On Sept. 12, Brighton is turning 100 and the town is going to celebrate. The event is scheduled for September 13-14 and more information will come soon.Post Commander, "BigDave"Sienkiewicz, Welcomes everyone to the picnic.
