This upcoming school year in Shelby County has many changes but there are still some dates parents can mark on the calendar.
There are even more changes to come in the future with the recent victory at the polls for municipal schools in cities like Millington. Before the 2014-15 school year arrives, students attending public schools in Shelby County will be a part of the Unified School District.
With Memphis City Schools and Shelby County Schools combining for this upcoming year, there are some policy changes like school uniforms, personnel will be different at your child’s schools and staff will have a different look.
Administrators are advising parents to go online for general registration information.
Registration is July 30 and the school will have on hand information on supplies and dress for your child. For example Lucy Elementary has a diagram of how to dress a student on the supply list which is available at the Millington Walmart.
The school is releasing the information in a timely fashion in order to help parents plan for the annual Sales Tax Holiday Aug. 2-4.
The State of Tennessee’s Annual Sales Tax Holiday is held every year on the first Friday in August and ends the following Sunday night. This year’s tax-free holiday weekend begins at 12:01 a.m on Friday, Aug. 2 and ends Sunday, Aug. 4 at 11:59 p.m. Consumers and retailers can call (800) 342-1003, Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Central Time or e-mail to find out what is eligible to purchase during the weekend.
