The Munford Lady Cougars look to make it seven straight Sub-State appearances. But Head Coach Nina Makris will have to do it without four seniors who graduated (Sami Jo Schulz, Lauren Zvolanek and Kelsey Hale starters). Munford will feature two seniors Laura Leavell and Jodie Duncan. There leadership will be needed along with elevated play from juniors like Cecily Gable, Precious Mills and Maddison Welch.
“With Arlington and Bartlett being very good, it’s going to be very tough,” Makris said. “And with losing both Sami and Lauren, that was our two middle hitters. I’ve got to move some people and bring some younger kids up. It’s all going to depend on how well they all work together. It’s going to be tough this year.”
Brighton will try to stop Munford’s run of dominance in District 13-3A. Head Coach Cheryl Jacobs will bring to the court a roster with nine seniors featuring proven starters like Ali Christmas, Charlie Hansen and Chelsea Bingham. The Lady Cardinals said goodbye to point producers like Haley Shepard, McCallie Ruffin and Morgan Shaver. Now players like Lilly Hill, Caroline Davis, Jordan Brooks and Amanda Morgan will need to step up to replace that production.
At Tipton-Rosemark Academy, Wendy Porter only said goodbye to senior Mady Kate Gantt. Most of her roster returns in 2013 led by Best of the Preps players Asante Lopez and Jackie Kuykendall. Kendall Seering and Bethany Berger will be other key contributors this season for the Lady Rebels in Division II-A.
