The building and faces in it are still the same.
But the name providing phone, internet and cable service to the residents of the Millington area has changed from Millington Telephone Co., to Ritter Communication.
Last Thursday, the Millington Area Chamber of Commerce hosted the ribbon cutting for Ritter Communication at 4880 Navy Road. Several Millington dignitaries like Mayor Terry Jones, Shelby County Commissioner Terry Roland, Chamber President Charles Gulotta, several Millington aldermen and community leaders made their way to the former Millington Telephone Co., to celebrate the arrival of Ritter.
“It means so much,” Ritter CFO Gregg Smith said. “It’s a great company and we’re more than 100 years old. We’re just honored to be over here and a part of this community and to bring our services and investments over here. With this great group of employees, it’s a real honor for the company.”
Ritter Communications is now the name over Millington Telephone Co., Millington CATV, Inc. and Millington Alarms, Inc. The deal was done back in December.
The companies formerly owned and operated by the Howard family were acquired in December 2012 by Ritter Communications, a provider of advanced telecommunications services and broadband technologies to business and residential customers in Northeast and North Central Arkansas.
The purchase of those companies by Ritter has created the opportunity to offer bundled services to customers.
“We’re looking for 50-meg internet speed,” Smith said. “We’re looking for home DVRs and a lot of other things in the video products. We’re rolling out a host of all new products for our customers in Arkansas and Millington today.
“Consolidating everything under the Ritter name paves the way for new offerings like bundles with all services bearing a consistent logo,” he added. “In the fall, customers can look forward to faster Internet speeds, more channel options, unlimited long distance, advanced business solutions and bundled services. It’s a great time to be a Ritter Communications customer.”
Smith was the leader of the Transition Team. Thursday’s ribbon cutting was a chance for him and the Ritter employees to display the transformation and celebrate 8 months of hard work at 4880 Navy Road in Millington and 1464 Munford Avenue in Munford.
Ritter Communications, founded in Marked Tree, Arkansas and headquartered in Jonesboro, began providing local phone service in 1906. Today, Ritter serves 57 communities and more than 40,000 customers in Northeast and North Central Arkansas and West Tennessee with advanced voice and data services typically found only in major metropolitan areas.
Millington and the surrounding service area now officially has a new name in communication. Smith said Ritter is proud to take three Millington icons underneath one roof and lead it onto another level.
“Our tag line is ‘We’re right by you,’” he concluded. “What that means is everything we do, we’re right by you, as a company. We’re supporting the community and the people of that community. It’s really important to us that we live up to that tag line.”
Residential consumer services include local and long distance phone service, cable television and high speed Internet. Business services include customized communications systems and services, including broadband Internet services, Managed Voice, data center services, Ethernet connectivity, customized networking and hosted applications.
