Football Wrap Up: Week 4

The big weekend in Brighton started in Covington Friday night when the Cardinals traveled to their rivals and picked up a 31-7 win. After falling behind 7-0 to the Covington Chargers, Brighton scored 31 unanswered points to earn the rivalry victory. Cardinal running back Blue Currie had a big night with 166 yards rushing on 18 carries delivering Covington it’s first regular season loss since the 2011 season. Brighton (2-1) was one of the Chargers victims last season as Covington marched to the State championship game.  After Friday night, Covington dropped to 3-1 on the season.
Cardinal Zach Ballard also has a solid night on the ground with 113 yards on 21 carries. Brighton’s field general Colton Hathcock passed for 182 yards and two touchdowns in the win. Brighton’s defense held Covington to 1-yard rushing.
The Cardinals are back on the road again this week traveling to Hardin County for a 7 p.m. kickoff.
Despite two big plays from Tipton-Rosemark Academy Rebel Logan Stewart, the FACS Crusaders were victorious at Rebel Field Friday night 47-14.
The Crusaders jumped out ahead 34-0 by halftime. But the Rebels came out with a bang in the third quarter when Stewart returned a kickoff 77 yards for a touchdown.
FACS responded with two touchdowns in the third quarter by Kortney Morris and James Alexander to put the game out of reach. TRA had the last score of the night courtesy of Stewart on a 2-yard run. Although the Rebels (2-2) ran eight more plays from the line of scrimmage, FACS racked up 370 yards of total offense.
TRA returns to action Sept. 27 at Lausanne.
