K9 Bulletproof Vest Fundraiser

Star Staff ReportsPublic Safety k9 vest donations 1

In August the Tipton County Sheriff’s Office was approached to participate in efforts to raise funds for the purchase of protective bulletproof vest for six Tipton County canines.  The agencies include the Tipton County Sheriff’s Office, Munford Police Department and Covington Police Department.  (The Atoka Police Department K9 already equipped with a vest.)
The fundraiser is being directed by Pansy Bradley and supported by the Paws and Claws Photography that benefits the Tipton County Animal Shelter.
“The project began when I found out that six of the K9s in Tipton County did not have bulletproof vest,” Bradley said. “I feel that these vests would help protect this working group of canines with the dangerous jobs they face while serving in our community.
“The cost of the vest is approximately $1000.00 each,” she added. “We are asking for donations from anyone who would like to support our K9s and their handlers.  It is obvious that the deputies and officers love their K9’s and want to help with their safety and that is where I come in, because every Deputy/Officer needs/deserves a vest, both 2 and 4 legged.”
“I am so proud for the six Tipton County canines that will be receiving a bulletproof vest through the efforts of this fundraiser,” Sheriff J.T. “Pancho” Chumley said. “We ask these canines to do some of the most dangerous assignments we face in law enforcement.  A K9 handler is constantly training and become their partner while on the streets.  The protective vest will be another layer of safety precautions for these canine teams. I want to thank Ms. Bradley for her efforts in spearheading this project and her support for Tipton County law enforcement.”
