Free Funeral Protection for Furloughed Federal Employees

Former Memphis City Councilman Brent Taylor is pleased to announce his funeral homes are now protecting federal employees who have been furloughed due to the government shutdown with free funerals in the unfortunate event they suffer a death in their immediate family while out on furlough.
“A federal employee who is without a paycheck could be financially ruined if faced with purchasing a funeral during this government shutdown,” Taylor said. “These public servants should not have to worry about an unforeseen funeral expense while the government is shutdown. They deserve peace of mind.”
Taylor developed this program as a result of having served 13 years in various elected capacities, and seeing first-hand the value public servants provide to our quality of life. These public servants and their families are caught in this perilous position through no fault of their own.
“The federal government may deem these employees to be non-essential, but they are very essential to our community, and they are essential to my business,” Taylor said. “The community has supported my funeral homes over the years and this is a way for me to support these employees during this government shutdown.”
Registration is required to establish eligibility, and to know which federal employees wish to participate in this benefit. It cost nothing to register and the program ends when the federal government reopens. To register your family, please call our Furloughed Employee Hotline at 461-7956.
