Nov. 1 at Memphis Convention Center — East Concourse Entrance – Across form the Sheraton
MEMPHIS — The Stephen Siller Tunnel to Towers Foundation and the Gary Sinise Foundation are partnering to host a benefit concert here on Friday, Nov 1 at 7 P.M. to honor local hometown hero, USMC Cpl. Christian (“CB”) Brown. The concert featuring Gary Sinise & the Lt Dan Band will be held at the Memphis Convention Center and will kick-off “Operation CB”, a community-wide effort to raise funds towards building Cpl. Christian Brown a “Smart Home” in Munford.
A 2002 graduate of Munford High School, Christian enlisted in the United States Marine Corps in 2009. He was sent to Marjah, Afghanistan for his first deployment and after returning safely, volunteered to redeploy to Afghanistan where he led 163 combat missions as squad leader. On December 13, 2011, Cpl. Brown stepped on an IED (Improvised Explosive Devise) in Kajaki, Afghanistan and was seriously wounded sustaining multi-trauma to both hands and arms, amputations of both legs as well as severe internal injuries.
The Tunnel to Towers Foundation and the Gary Sinise Foundation joined forces in 2011 to establish the “Building for America’s Bravest” program that involves building customized “Smart Homes” for America’s most seriously injured veterans such as Cpl Brown. All funds raised at this benefit concert will go to “Operation CB” (www.OperationCB.com) to support the building of Cpl. Brown’s “Smart Home.”
“It is important to stop and pay tribute to those who have sacrificed the most to our country, like Cpl. Christian Brown,” said actor and humanitarian Gary Sinise. “I hope the folks in Memphis will attend the Benefit Concert which will help Chris reclaim his mobility and independence.”
When his “Smart Home” is completed next year, Christian and his family will move back to Munford where he will continue to work with doctors. “I am truly blessed and grateful for the support of the community here and the help of both Foundations,” said Christian Brown.
