The latest Tipton-Rosemark Academy Rebel to sign to the next level is senior Blain Curtis. The Rebel leadoff hitter inked his national letter of intent today in the school’s lobby to Christian Brothers University in Memphis.
Receiving some interest from Division I schools, Curtis was passed up admittedly because of his height. But the 5-foot, 7-inch speedster with pop in his bat landed with the Bucs. CBU was impressed with Curtis’ play on the Memphis Tigers travel team and with TRA. With the Rebels Curtis has been one of the leaders in batting average the last two seasons helping TRA reach the 2012 State Tournament.
Last season Curtis batted .389 with nine doubles and a homer. He added to his school record in triples with three. With 37 hits, Curtis also stole 20 bases. Reaching base 32 times on walks, Curtis scored 45 times in 33 games.
Curtis is the second Rebel to sign during the 2013 early signing period joining classmate Connor Alexander who will be heading to Memphis. Curtis is the 10th signee during the tenure of Brad Smith as Head Coach of the Rebels.
