Powerlifting officials needed for 2014 season

By Thomas Sellers Jr.Powerlifting

Trainer, local officer and SCIAA Powerlifting Assigning Agent Ken Robinson is looking for 50 volunteers to officiate the upcoming 2014 Powerlifting Season.
The training and certification of these officials will be free of charge. The duties do require that the volunteers be physically fit because we will rotate everyone as loaders and spotters for the athletes. Safety is paramount.
“We need male and female volunteers because we do have female athletes,” Robinson said. “There are also clerical duties that are available. We want to use volunteers who have a strong interest in encouraging young student athletes. We are open for individual volunteers as well as organizations that do community service. Background checks will be conducted.”
This powerlifting season is an attempt to reach out to the youth of Shelby County and instill in them strong inner strength and well being. For the past 3 years it has been an outstanding motivational tool to the youth that have participated.
Competitions start in January and goes through April. Refreshments will be provided.
All interested organizations and individuals can contact Robinson by cell phone or e-mail.  The AAU Powerlifting Tennessee State Chairman can be reached at 643-1704 or Krob5611@bellsouth.net
