Students from Memphis Academy of Health and Science came out on Dec. 14 to sing and cheer up the seniors of Casa Grace at 3815 Austin Peay Highway under the direction of Dr. Tonya Biles.

Jordan’s Thrifts, Gifts & Java located at 6646 Highway 51 North by Plantation Oaks Hotel will be starting classes on Jan. 6 from 6-8 p.m. for the following classes: Domestic Violence, Shelter from the Storm (Overcoming Sexual Abuse) and Celebrate Recovery (Overcoming Addictions). Tops (Taking Off Pounds Sensibly)  meets on Fridays from 9-11 a.m. at Millington Community Center. Come join us the group to have fun. For more information, call Doris Landerman at 573-8536.

The Exchange Club of Millington meets at Old Timer’s Restaurant in Millington at noon every second and fourth Wednesday of the month. Guest are always welcomed. For more information, call 872-8888.

The town of Atoka is currently looking to fill entertainment slots for the 2014 Atoka BBQ Fest on Friday and Saturday, April 4-5, 2014 at Nancy Lane Park in Atoka. We would like to invite your band to be considered to play during this event. Live music is tentatively scheduled to run from 11 a.m. –11 p.m. on Friday. There will also be one time slot available on Saturday at 4 p.m. If you are interested in participating in this event complete the form that could be accessed at the Town of Atoka page and return it to the address listed. City of Munford, The recycling container is located at the south end of Haddad’s Department Store parking lot on Crigger Circle.  Only newsprint, corrugated cardboard and plastics are collected at this site.  Additional materials are collected at the Tipton County Recycling Center located at the landfill on Highway 51. Computers may be recycled free of charge at Expertek, 70 Munford Avenue.

Jan. 8
This is the 10th year that the Republican Women of Purpose has been working for the election of Republican Party candidates.  Annually, our January meeting honors the seven Republican state legislators from Shelby County who have worked hard to improve the lives of all citizens of our community, and who have become so important to the members of our club.  Please join us on January 8, at the Luncheon Meeting at Southwind Country Club at 11 a.m., where Senate Majority Leader Mark Norris, Senator Brian Kelsey, Representatives Curry Todd, Ron Lollar, Jim Coley, Steve McManus, and Mark White will be our special guests with their preview and insight into the upcoming legislative session.  Reservations are required by Jan. 3, 2014 to mjd1334@aol.com. There is a fee for the lunch.
Jan. 9
Greenprint – Millington Arts and Recreation: At this meeting Arts and Rec will be discussing the goals and objectives that the group would like to achieve. Examples the department has talked about are linking parks, neighborhoods, and schools; biker friendly passageways; alternative transportation options. etc. The department is inviting the public for the 5:30 p.m. meeting at the Main Auditorium at 7942 Church Street in Millington.

Jan. 13
Victory Baptist Church of Drummonds will be hosting Monday Night Revival Fires beginning on Jan. 13.  Every Monday Night will feature a local pastor or missionary doing the preaching.  These services are for all of the community to get recharged, we invite everyone from the local area to join us,  we are looking for groups or individuals to sing in the community choir, we need you to help us fill our church every Monday Night with people, singing and praising the Lord.  All services on Monday Nights begin at 7 p.m.  For more information about the services or to volunteer to sing in the choir, call Victory Baptist Church at 835-2880 or e-mail us at:  victorybap@aol.com.

The first Board of Mayor and Aldermen regular Meeting will be held Jan. 13 at 6 p.m. at Millington City Hall Chambers at 7930 Nelson in Millington. A Board of Mayor & Aldermen – Work Session will be held Jan. 27 from 5- 9 p.m. at Millington City Hall – Chambers. This work session will include review of FY13 Audit by our independent CPA’s, Second Quarter FY14 Budget Review and preliminary planning on FY15 Budget. For more information, call 872-2211.

Jan. 16
The National Active & Retired Federal Employees Association, Chapter 1382 meeting will be held at noon, Thursday,  at Old Timers Restaurant in Millington. The guest speaker will be Joy Williams, Senior Living Advisor for “A Place for Mom.”  She will discuss  senior citizen living options and caregiving for seniors.  For more information, call Carolyn Cribbis at 413-7123.

Jan. 17
Millington Arts and Recreation presents Family Skate Night to be held on Friday from 6– 9 p.m. at the Millington Civic Center gym. Entertainment will be provided by Jordabella Entertainment or Look Left Entertainment. There is an admission fee and includes the use of our skates. Non-skating parents are admitted free. Concessions will be sold. The school with the most students in attendance will win the traveling Skate Night trophy.
