The Millington Exchange Club delivered Christmas bags that were decorated by the students at E.A. Harrold, to the residents at Millington Healthcare. Jordan’s Thrifts, Gifts & Java located at 6646 Highway 51 North by Plantation Oaks Hotel will be starting classes on Jan. 6 from 6-8 p.m. for the following classes: Domestic Violence, Shelter from the Storm (Overcoming Sexual Abuse) and Celebrate Recovery (Overcoming Addictions). The town of Atoka is currently looking to fill entertainment slots for the 2014 Atoka BBQ Fest on Friday and Saturday, April 4-5, 2014 at Nancy Lane Park in Atoka. We would like to invite your band to be considered to play during this event. Live music is tentatively scheduled to run from 11 a.m. –11 p.m. on Friday. There will also be one time slot available on Saturday at 4 p.m. If you are interested in participating in this event complete the form that could be accessed at the Town of Atoka page and return it to the address listed. City of Munford, The recycling container is located at the south end of Haddad’s Department Store parking lot on Crigger Circle.  Only newsprint, corrugated cardboard and plastics are collected at this site.  Additional materials are collected at the Tipton County Recycling Center located at the landfill on Highway 51. Computers may be recycled free of charge at Expertek, 70 Munford Avenue.

Jan. 16
The National Active & Retired Federal Employees Association, Chapter 1382 meeting will be held at noon, Thursday,  at Old Timers Restaurant in Millington. The guest speaker will be Joy Williams, Senior Living Advisor for “A Place for Mom.”  She will discuss  senior citizen living options and caregiving for seniors.  For more information, call Carolyn Cribbis at 413-7123.

Jan. 17
Millington Arts and Recreation presents Family Skate Night to be held on Friday from 6– 9 p.m. at the Millington Civic Center gym. Entertainment will be provided by Jordabella Entertainment or Look Left Entertainment. There is an admission fee and includes the use of our skates. Non-skating parents are admitted free. Concessions will be sold. The school with the most students in attendance will win the traveling Skate Night trophy.

Jan. 17-18
Open auditions for Black Comedy (What Goes On When the Lights Go Out?) by Peter Shaffer  Friday, Jan. 17, 7 to 9 p.m., and Saturday, Jan. 18, 10 a.m. to noon at Harvell Civic Center. Playhouse 51 Stage Manager Workshop Saturday, 1 to 3 p.m. at Harvell Civic Center.  .  This informative, educational workshop is free and open to anyone interested in learning the responsibilities and duties of this key position in every theatrical production.  You will learn how the Stage Manager relates to every other crew position and how the Stage Manager coordinates with others to run the show during performances.  Also included in the workshop will be information on the position of House Manager and basic Fire Safety Training for group-attended events.  For more information, call 872-7170, go to, or visit us on our Facebook page.

KICKs, Kids in Christ the King, is a youth based program at West Union Cumberland Presbyterian Church, located at 3099 West Union Road. It is a program for youth, ages 3 to 17 years old. It will meet on Jan. 29 at 6 p.m. starting with dinner and following with activities.  For more information, call 876-5757 ext 3.

Feb. 4
Dance your heart healthy in the New Year. Wear Red for heart and join us for a beginner square dance to benefit The American Heart Association. Family friendly cake walk, door prizes. There is a request of a $5 donation on Tuesday, Feb. 4, from 7-9 p.m. at the Cordova Community Center at 1017 N Sanga Road. For information, call 373-4497.

Month of February
The Dungarees & Petticoats Square Dance Club will begin a square dance class on Friday, Jan. 31 at 7 p.m. in the old Fellowship Hall at St. Williams Catholic Church at 4932 Easley St. at West Street in Millington. If you would like to learn how to square dance or have square danced before and need to recycle, you are welcome to come and join us. Singles are welcome.
