Millington Lodge No. 671 of Free & Accepted Masons Officers for 2014 . At their January meeting the Millington Lodge of Free & Accepted Masons elected their officers for 2014. The Third Annual Flag City Junior College Classic will be held Feb. 14 - 18 from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. at USA Stadium located at  4351 Babe Howard Blvd in Millington.

The Dungarees & Petticoats Square Dance Club began  square dance class on Friday, Jan. 31 at 7 p.m. in the old Fellowship Hall at St. Williams Catholic Church at 4932 Easley St. at West Street in Millington. If you would like to learn how to square dance or have square danced before and need to recycle, you are welcome to come and join us. Singles are welcome. The Atoka Dixie Youth Softball will host the DSI World Series for the Angels and Debs division. There is a 2014 sponsorship program available with four levels. Jordan’s Thrifts, Gifts & Java located at 6646 Highway 51 North by Plantation Oaks Hotel will be starting classes on Jan. 6 from 6-8 p.m. for the following classes: Domestic Violence, Shelter from the Storm (Overcoming Sexual Abuse) and Celebrate Recovery (Overcoming Addictions). Boston butts are on sale for $30 as a benefit fundraiser for the Bruce Potter Memorial Scholarship Fund. Call Munford Police Department at 837-5980 to reserve yours today. Pick-up will be March 8. The Bruce Potter Memorial Scholarship Fund was established to help any senior who wants to pursue a career in Criminal Justice. Office Potter was a reserve with the Munford Police Department when he was struck with a terminal brain tumor. Unfortunately Office Potter lost his battle in March of 2013. The Bruce Potter Memorial Scholarship Fund was conceived in honor of Office Potter in hopes that others might be able to extend his love and appreciation for his community and the criminal justice field.

City of Munford, The recycling container is located at the south end of Haddad’s Department Store parking lot on Crigger Circle.  Only newsprint, corrugated cardboard and plastics are collected at this site.  Additional materials are collected at the Tipton County Recycling Center located at the landfill on Highway 51. Computers may be recycled free of charge at Expertek, 70 Munford Avenue.

2014 Shelby County Commission primary fundraiser will have music, food and networking. They are asking for a minimum donation of $20. For more information, call 239-2399.

Feb. 15
A book signing and concert will be held on Saturday Feb. 15 to benefit the www.militarywarriors.org. Book signing will be held from 1-3 p.m., at Applegarth Bookstore in Millington on Highway 51. Then US 51 Country presents the MVP3 Hero concert featuring local artists honoring those who serve military free $5 donation welcomed from 4-6 p.m., at Baker Community Center in Millington. The company is in a mission to raise $20,000 to give a military hero a 100 percent donated home. The company is a film, music and talent management on a mission to build an entertainment powerhouse to create economic growth through entertainment industry. Baseball, softball and T-ball registration has been extended to Saturday. We will be at the office from 9 a.m.-1 p.m. to take registration. If you don’t sign up by February 15 and still want to play, there is a $20 late fee per family and you will not go back to the same team that you were on the year before. Cost is $55 per player if you live in the city limits, $65 if you are outside. Families that have multiple players and live outside the city limits-only the first child is $65. Any other children would be $55. Come to Baker Community Center at 7942 Church Street to register and call 873-5770 if you have any questions.

KICKs, Kids in Christ the King, is a youth based program at West Union Cumberland Presbyterian Church, located at 3099 West Union Road. It is a program for youth, ages 3-17 years old. Feb. 22
The Millington Family YMCA will host its annual Polar Plunge on Saturday,  at 10 a.m. to support the We Build People Campaign.  Participants will jump, or walk into our outdoor pool then, will be treated to a breakfast donated by Old Timers Restaurant.  The first 50 that register will receive a Polar Plunge long sleeve T-shirt.  All proceeds will be used to send kids to camp, provide after school care for working parents and memberships for families in need.  The YMCA is located at 7725 E. Feb. 25
St. Anne’s Episcopal Church located at 4063 Sykes Road will host a Fashion Show, Luncheon and Card Party on Feb. 25. There is an admission fee. The event is sponsored by Her 3 Wishes Boutique. For ticket information, call 872-2037.

Month of March
Doyle Baseball Academy Returns to Millington for the fourth consecutive year. Millington Arts Recreation and Parks will be hosting the nationally recognized Doyle Academy on March 1. America’s No. 1 Camp will instruct baseball and softball players between the ages of 6 and 15 in hitting during the one day school. The school will be held from noon to 4 p.m. at the Biloxi Ballpark. Doyle Baseball, in its 35th year of operation, conducts Satellite Schools all over the country and into Canada. More than 800,000 players have benefited from Doyle’s expert instruction. Thousands of players have gone on to collegiate careers as well as numerous players into professional baseball. Doyle Baseball utilizes a step by step teaching approach that allows every player to improve and build confidence. The Doyle program is a result of continuous research and development and has constantly been improved to provide the best instruction for young players everywhere. Register early and save on tuition for the Doyle Baseball Academy by Feb. 24. After that, the fee will increase. Valentine’s Day
Come out for a spaghetti dinner prepared by Memphis International Raceway  and a show “Love Letters” by A.R. Gurney performed by Playhouse 51 on Valentine’s Night. The event is scheduled for 6 p.m. with dinner being served at 6:30 p.m., and the show starting 45 minutes later. The event will take place at Main Auditorium located at 7942 Church Street in Millington. For ticket information, call 873-5770.

S.A.F.E. Class
This is a free Self Defense Awareness & Familiarization Exchange Program for women only ages 15 to 90-plus being held Friday, Feb. 28 from 6-9 p.m. at Atoka Senior Center. Pre-registration is required.

SYS Track Sign-ups
Shelby Youth Sports Track & Field registrations are underway on Tuesdays and Thursdays during February from 6-8 p.m. at Exline’s Pizza in Millington located at 8507 Highway 51 North. Practice starts Feb. 20 with the location to be determined. The first track meet will be on March 22 with the season ending the last week in May. There are fees; cost $135 and covers $55 SYS fee; $40 program fee for trophy/banquet; and $40 uniforms.
