Mayor Luttrell Authorizes Tree Debris Removal in Unincorporated Neighborhoods

Citizens in Shelby County’s unincorporated neighborhoods will get some needed assistance to remove broken tree limbs caused by the recent icing conditions.

“We had wide-spread damage last week, especially in the northern sections of Shelby County.  We wanted to assist citizens in those areas and other unincorporated neighborhoods with tree damage,” said Shelby County Mayor Mark H. Luttrell, Jr.

Shelby County doesn’t provide trash pick-up or roadside debris removal in the unincorporated areas.  However, damage assessment crews say there are piles of tree limbs throughout the county that are causing traffic problems and harborage for vermin.

“The assistance from our crews will also reduce the number of anticipated burn permits by property owners.  That leads to air pollution,” added Tom Needham, Shelby County Public Works Director.

The cleanup crews begin tomorrow and will continue their work during the weekdays until June 10.

Residents should stack limbs along the roadsides, away from the traffic, and call either the Shelby County Public Works Division at 222-7705 or the Shelby County Mayor’s Action Center at 222-2300.
