Calendar of Events March 13

The University of Memphis had 28 student-athletes named to the 2013 American Athletic Conference All-Academic Football Team which was announced last month. Millington Central High School graduate and record-breaking Memphis tight end Alan Cross was one of those student-athletes. A total of 246 league student-athletes were recognized oAlan Cross Memphisn the team.
To be nominated, a student-athlete must have a cumulative grade point average of at least 3.0 and have completed a minimum of two consecutive semesters, or three consecutive quarters of academic work with a total of 18 semester or 27 quarter credits. Below is a list of Memphis’ student-athletes named to the team:

Millington Airport Authority Board of Commissioners Meetings are scheduled at 3:30 p.m. every third Tuesday at Millington Regional Jetport. For more information, call 873-5796.

Jordan’s Thrifts, Gifts & Java located at 6646 Highway 51 North by Plantation Oaks Hotel will be starting classes on Jan. 6 from 6-8 p.m. for the following classes: Domestic Violence, Shelter from the Storm (Overcoming Sexual Abuse) and Celebrate Recovery (Overcoming Addictions). City of Munford, The recycling container is located at the south end of Haddad’s Department Store parking lot on Crigger Circle.  Only newsprint, corrugated cardboard and plastics are collected at this site.  Additional materials are collected at the Tipton County Recycling Center located at the landfill on Highway 51. Computers may be recycled free of charge at Expertek, 70 Munford Avenue.

March 13
The Rosemark Civic Club will meet on Thursday, at 7 p.m. in Memorial Hall of the Richland Associate Reformed Presbyterian Church, 8658 Rosemark Road, in Millington.The agenda will include an update on zoning issues and the recent activity concerning Lakeland Annexation. March 15
Help support the fundraising project to purchase new playground equipment for West Union Cumberland Presbyterian Church and community – by purchasing tickets for our “Blue Hawaii” Dinner Theater with entertainment by Tim Rowland on Saturday at 6 p.m. The ticket prices are

March 19
KICKs, Kids In Christ the King, is a youth based program that meets at West Union Cumberland Presbyterian Church, at 3099 West Union Road.  It is a program for youths aged 3-17 years old.  The theme for the dinner and activities on March 19 is Spring Fling. March 20
Alpha School will be hosting an Open House/Registration Event on Thursday from 10 a.m. until 9 p.m. Registration is now being accepted for Kindergarten students for the 2014-15 school year. The event will be held at Alpha School 4655 Navy Road in Millington. For more information, call 489-9622.

The  National Active and Retired Federal Employees Association, Chapter 1382 meeting will be held at noon, Thursday, March 20 at Old Timers Restaurant in Millington. For more information, call Carolyn Cribbis at 413-7123.

ICU Mobile Memphis Benefit Dinner with guest speaker Mike Huckabee will be held March 25 at Bellevue Baptist Church with tickets currently on sale. Corporate sponsorship is available. March 21
S.A.F.E Class is free to the public is Self Defense Awareness & Familiarization Exchange Program for women only ages 15 to 90-plus. The class will be held Friday from noon to 4 p.m. It’s sponsored by the Atoka Police Department and the Atoka Senior Recreation Center. Pre-registration is required.

March 22
The VFW Post 7175 Men’s Auxiliary in Millington will be hosting it’s second annual “Spring Fling” event featuring live music with the band “Down2Five.” The date and time is March 22 at 7 p.m. There will be a cover charge.  The event is a fundraiser with proceeds going to the VFW Post 7175 Men’s Auxiliary and the United Mitochondrial Disease Foundation. Public is invited!

March 29
The Kiwanis Club of Millington will host its annual Pancake Breakfast at Baker Community Cetner on Saturday from 7 a.m. to noon. Come enjoy a hearty breakfast with proceeds going to youth and elderly community needs.

Come join us for a night of fun on Saturday March, 29 at St William Catholic Church, located at 4932 Easley Ave, Millington.  Play starts at 7 p.m. Come early and decorate your table.  Prize for best table.  Bring your own food, drinks and snacks.  There is a fee per table of 8 for a team.  Registration must be in by March 22 to the church office. SYS Track Sign-ups
Shelby Youth Sports Track & Field registrations are underway on Tuesdays and Thursdays during February from 6-8 p.m. at Exline’s Pizza in Millington located at 8507 Highway 51 North. Practice starts Feb. 20 with the location to be determined. The first track meet will be on March 22 with the season ending the last week in May. There are fees; cost $135 and covers $55 SYS fee; $40 program fee for trophy/banquet; and $40 uniforms. Month of April
Millington Police vs. Millington Fire Softball Challenge will be held April 26 at 3 p.m at the First Baptist Fields. This is the second annual challenge and the public is welcome with free admission.
