SUSAN MARIE HARSEN DAVIS
Susan Marie Harsen Davis, 64, died Monday, Feb. 24, 2014 at her home in Water Valley, MS. She was born August 21, 1949 in Seattle, WA to the late Sylvester and Margaret Harsen. Susan served in the United States Navy, and earned a master’s degree in nursing. She was a faithful member of Christ the Rock Apostolic Church in Oxford, MS where she served as Co-facilitator for the On-Track Life Enrichment Program and Director of the Women’s Esprit’ Program. Susan enjoyed cooking, sewing, helping others and spent much of her time volunteering as a school nurse and a bus driver for the Oxford Christian Academy. Her life revolved around her church and her family. Susan is survived by her daughters, Jessica (Charley) Norwood of Water Valley, MS and Tonya Morris of Memphis; her sisters, Sharon Maloley (George) of Phoenix, Ariz., and Kim Marle (Milt) of Denver, Colo.; her brother, Richard Harsen (Glenda) of Spring Hill; and five grandchildren, Briana, Brooke, Bradyn, Luke and Charlie Grace Norwood. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her son, Brian Morris.

LOTTIE LORETTA DEMPSEY ‘GRANDLADY’ GARRETT
Lottie Loretta Dempsey Garrett “Grandlady,” 74, died March 2, 2014 after a short illness. Born in Richie, Miss., Loretta grew up near the Gulf and loved the beach. She married Max Everett Garrett in 1957. They lived in the Shelby Forest area of Shelby County, Tennessee for the majority of their married lives. She was known for her fabulous cooking and sharing her baked goods and potato salad with friends and family. She leaves behind two daughters, Dixie Lucas and her husband, Jeff; Tehronda Lucas; two grandchildren, Sheena Lucas Pruett, and her husband Johnathon; and Ian Lucas; and a grandson, Griffyn; brothers, Willis L. Dempsey Jr. and family; Sister, Dorothy Weeks and family; and brother, Carlton Dempsey and family;  and a close family friend, Chris Rowe. She also leaves behind many friends and extended family. She was preceded in death by her husband, Max Everett Garrett, her parents, Willis Lafayette Dempsey, Sr. and Ermie Marie Westbrook Dempsey; two babies; and her son-in-law, Joey Randall “Randy” Lucas. There will be no formal service. Her wishes were for the family and friends to have a party and celebrate her life, which will be held in the near future. LeWEIR C. SIMPSON & GARLAND D. SIMPSON
LeWeir C. Simpson, 77, of Bartlett, passed away Feb.28, 2014. Her husband of 55 years, Garland D. Simpson, 78, also of Bartlett, passed away March 2, 2014. They are survived by two daughters, Tammy Calvasina (Jason) and Rebecca Giometti (Jon), three sons, Dr. Harland Simpson (Leighanne), Garland Simpson (Karen), and Tim Simpson (Robin), nine grandchildren, three great grandchildren, and beloved caretaker, Tammy Roland and her daughter, Tamilyah.  LeWeir will be remembered for the love she showed her family, the way she spoiled her grandchildren, and her passion for sports, especially softball, which she played semi-professionally for Pepsi Cola, college football, and Tim Tebow. Her son-in-law Jason will miss his football buddy and fellow Ole Miss Rebel.  LeWeir loved children and coached many youth sports teams. Her husband, Garland, retired from MLG&W and the CherryPoint, North Carolina, Defense Depot. He loved to fish, hunt, and travel and loved his grandchildren. He was known in his later years as a “teddy bear”.  He will be missed by all, especially his son-in-law Jason, who brought him his weekly white zinfandel for the Westerns and Star Trek matinee when Garland was not able to do it himself. LeWeir generously donated her body for medical research. The family received friends at a catered reception March 7, with a rosary held later. A Mass was held for LeWeir and Garland at the St. Joachim Chapel at St. Ann Catholic Church in Bartlett March 8th.
