Jordan’s Thrifts, Gifts & Java located at 6646 Highway 51 North by Plantation Oaks Hotel will be starting classes on Jan. 6 from 6-8 p.m. for the following classes: Domestic Violence, Shelter from the Storm (Overcoming Sexual Abuse) and Celebrate Recovery (Overcoming Addictions). Day of the main event is May 17 at Aycock Park in Millington. Event will be held from noon until midnight this year. If the weather doesn’t cooperate, we will move the event inside. The National Day of Prayer “Pray for America: In His Name The Nations Will Put Their Home,” will be held May 1 from noon to 1 p.m. at the Harvell Civic Center located at 8977 Wilkinsville Road in Millington. May 2
On May 2 the Millington Central High School Symphonic Band’s Spring Concert and Bake Sale will be held at 6 p.m. at the school’s auditorium. Tickets are $8 for adults (includes one complimentary item from the bake sale) and $5 for students and children. For more information, call Megan Woodring at 873-8105.
May 3
Atoka Pack 60 Cub Scouts Rummage Sale Fundraiser will be held May 3 from 7 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Atoka United Methodist Church located at 609 Atoka-Munford Road. The local cub scout group is having a group rummage sale to raise money for the scouts and their activities. Along with a “charity” auction on homemade chairs designed by the scouts at 11 a.m.

The Millington Library Boosters will have their next book sale on Saturday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Millington Civic Center.  All proceeds go to help the Library.  For more information, call Bitha Luze at 872-3635.

Millington City Beautiful Gardening Seminar will be held Saturday, May 3 at 11 a.m. as part of the 2014 opening of the Millington Farmer’s Market. The theme of the seminar is “Growing Plants from Seeds” featuring Tom Mashour, Tipton County Master Gardener as part of the Millington City Beautiful Seed Giveaway. It’s free to the public. A community festival Horsapalooza presented by the Woodstock Cuba Saddle Club Youth will be held Saturday. Bring the family for a day of fun, food and community spirit with vendors, pony rides, face painting, western consignment, live music, equine demos, mini clinics and food. On Thursday, the Dixie Echoes will be in concert at Grace Baptist Church of Rosemark. The singing will begin at 7 p.m. No admission will be charged, but a love offering will be taken up. The church is located at 9171Brunswick Road in Rosemark. For more information, call 829-4621.

Healthy Living Expo for mature adults of all ages,sponsored by The Best Times is free and open to the community May 16 from 8:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. There will be vendors, free health screenings and more. May 17
St. William Catholic Church and the Millington Crisis Center are joining forces to raise money for the crisis center and the church.  The Seventh Annual Chinese Auction will be held on May 17, 2014 at 5:30 p.m. in the Family Life Center at St William located at 8027 West Street in Millington.  The Auction will be proceeded by a spaghetti dinner cooked by the Knights of Columbus,.  Price of the dinner is $10 per person and includes 20 tickets used for the Chinese Auction.  Bidders win by placing their numbered tickets in the container in front of the item they wish to bid on.  As tickets are drawn the number of the winning ticket is called and that person claims their item.  Advance tickets are now available in the church office or by contacting Bitha Luze at 872-3635 or Shirley Maes at 647-6111.

Annual Spaghetti Dinner and Auction will be held at West Union Cumberland Presbyterian Church, 3099 West Union Road, on Saturday, May 17. Dinner will be served at 5 p.m. with the auction following.  If you have donations for the auction and would like them picked up, call 876-5757, ext 3.  All proceeds go to the youth group for mission trips.

This Summer
NFL Pro Bowler and Carolina Panther star Greg Hardy is returning back to his hometown this summer for the I Go Hardy Camp for boys and girls. The football camp will be held July 12 for ages 6-17. The football camp is limited to 275. And there will be a cheerleading mini-camp for ages 6-12 that same day. The space there is limited to 25 spots. The camp will be held at Aycock Park with registration at 8 a.m. Then the camp will start at 9 a.m. and be completed at 2 p.m. Register at www.greghardyjr.com.
