NEW YORK — Last week the Munford High School Marching Band received the news that they have been selected to perform in the 2015 Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade.
Munford will join the line of march and begin their performance to the sound of Let’s Have Parade, the iconic phrase that has signaled the start of every Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade since 1924. They will join nine other marching bands from across the country as well as iconic Macy’s staples: floats, giant character balloons, clowns and superstar performers galore on Thanksgiving Day 2015.
“Munford High School will represent a long tradition of marching excellences from the state of Tennessee when they appear in the 2015 Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade. Macy’s Band Selection Committee is thrilled to recognize Munford’s great success on the field over the years and welcome them for the first time to New York City in 2015.,” said Wesley Whatley creative director, Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade.
Barry Trobaugh, band director, Munford High School Regiment said, “The Munford High School Band is humbled and honored to be chosen to represent Tennessee in the 2015 Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade. Our program is blessed to be recognized for its accomplishments throughout the years, but none has been greater than to be in New York City and be a part of The Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade. To be part of such a national treasure as the Macy’s Parade will be a lifelong memory for the students involved and also for our proud community for many years to come.”
Munford High School Principal Dr. Courtney Fee added, ‘On behalf of our entire school community, we are all humbled to be given such a significant, awesome opportunity to be represented in the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade. Our students, our parents and so many of us in our community have grown up watching the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade every Thanksgiving morning. To be a part of that lifelong Thanksgiving tradition is something we will all remember for the rest of our lives. The opportunity to march in the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade is life-changer. We are undeniably honored.”
For more than eight decades, Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade has given thanks to what Macy’s values most – its loyal fans. More than 5,000 Macy’s employees and dedicated volunteers work tirelessly to create a spectacular event that entertains the cheerful crowds and provides joy to millions at home watching on Thanksgiving Day. Marching down a more than two-mile long route in New York City, the spectacle is alive with gleaming color, music and smiles.
The Munford High School Marching Band was selected to be one of 10 marching ensembles to perform on Thursday, November 26, 2015 beating out more than 175 applicants nationwide. Each year, the Macy’s Parade Band Committee looks for bands that have the stage presence to captivate a national audience as well as having the musical and marching abilities to showcase on a national scale.
Before the band marches down the streets of New York City they will spend the next 18 months planning for their big debut. Rehearsals and creative fundraising events not only bring the school and the community closer, but prepare the students for the march of a lifetime.
With more than 50 million viewers across the country and more than 3.5 million spectators that line up along the streets of New York City each year, the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade is a national icon that has grown into a world-famous holiday event.
