The District 13-3A Tournament got off to a good start for the Brighton Lady Cardinals
The top seeded Lady Cardinals jumped out to a 3-1 lead against the Dyer County Lady Choctaws May 5 at the Munford Softball Field. But a late rally from the Lady Choctaws snatched victory from Brighton. Dyer County prevailed 6-4 to advance in the winner’s bracket.
“What’s been our problem all year is consistency,” Brighton Head Coach Robin Jacobs. “We’re on one game and we’re off the next. We were so close, just three outs away today.”
The Lady Cardinals broke a 1-1 tie early in the game courtesy of a Lauren “Rosy” Kinney double to score teamamte Anna McIntyre.
Brighton build its advantage to 3-1 by the top of the seventh inning. Dyer County rallied for five runs in the frame to take a 6-3 lead.
The Lady Cardinals tried to rally with Ali Christmas driving in a run with a single. But Brighton’s rally fell short. The Hardin County Lady Tigers eliminated the Lady Cardinals in the next game.
Dyer County advanced to the championship game losing to Munford.
Lady Cardinal Raygan Huffman was named to the All-Tournament team to go along with her regular-season MVP award.
