Calendar of Events June 5

Two members of the Covington High Family Career and Community Leaders of America recently competed in the state competition in Nashville.
Cachay Nathaniel and Chardae Foster are both freshmen at Covington High School. The Covington High School students placed first in the category of illustrated talk. The two will advance to the National competitive level in San Antonio, Texas this summer. These young ladies not only represented their school well, but also represented their town and local communities. Cachay Nathaniel and Chardae Foster have both recently received awards for their academic excellence, both obtaining a 4.0 grade average. While visiting Nashville the young ladies had an opportunity to visit Vanderbilt University to explore future educational opportunities. Cachay Nathaniel is the daughter of Thaddus Nathaniel and Letitia McCray. Chardae Foster is the daughter of Calvin and Laventress Foster.  We salute these two young ladies for not only representing their school, town, and families but for also representing their nation. Millington Airport Authority Board of Commissioners Meetings are scheduled at 3:30 p.m. every third Tuesday at Millington Regional Jetport. For more information, call 873-5796.

Jordan’s Thrifts, Gifts & Java located at 6646 Highway 51 North by Plantation Oaks Hotel will be starting classes on Jan. 6 from 6-8 p.m. for the following classes: Domestic Violence, Shelter from the Storm (Overcoming Sexual Abuse) and Celebrate Recovery (Overcoming Addictions). The Exchange Club of Millington meets at Old Timer’s Restaurant in Millington at noon every second and fourth Wednesday of the month. Guest are always welcomed. For more information, call 872-8888.

Join Millington Parks, Recreation and Arts’ Jeremy Rochell every Monday morning from 9 a.m. to noon  for a fun and educational program to make landscape improvements in our parks. This program is open to all ages. Children must be accompanied by and adult or pre register. All materials will be provided. No fee to participate. For more information, call 873-5770.

City of Munford, The recycling container is located at the south end of Haddad’s Department Store parking lot on Crigger Circle.  Only newsprint, corrugated cardboard and plastics are collected at this site.  Additional materials are collected at the Tipton County Recycling Center located at the landfill on Highway 51. Computers may be recycled free of charge at Expertek, 70 Munford Avenue.

Playhouse 51 presents A Little Murder Never Hurt Anybody by Ron Bernas.  Sponsored by Reed Family Dentistry and Smith Investments, this is the fourth and final show of Playhouse 51’s 10th Season. Performances will be held on June 6, 7, 8, 13, 14 and 15 at the Harvell Civic Center in Millington located at 8077 Wilkinsville Road.  Friday and Saturday performances are at 7:30 p.m. the Sunday matinees are at 2 p.m.  Tickets are available at the door and cost $12 for regular adults, $10 for seniors / students/military and Playhouse 51 members. Munford Parks & Rec
Munford Parks and Recreation Partners with the “Y” to Provide Summer Camps Munford Parks and Recreation has partnered with the Millington Family YMCA to provide summers camps for children who have completed kindergarten through fifth grade.  The summer day camp starts May 27-Aug. 1,  Hours are from 6:30 a.m. to 6 p.m., Monday through Friday.  There is a registration fee.  Camps will be held at the old Munford Library located at 87 College Street, and will include trips to the parks in the city of Munford, the library and skating rink. Summer Day Camp Programs provide an exciting, safe environment for children and teens to explore the outdoors, build confidence, develop skills and make lasting friendships and memories, so they can grow as individuals and leaders. June 5
The Activities Committee of West Union Cumberland Presbyterian Church is sponsoring a supper to honor the men of our church on Saturday at 6 p.m. The guest speaker will be Gene Smith who is with Radio AM790 and the “Outside with Larry Rea Show.” Come and eat a delicious meal. June 7
The Millington Library Boosters will be having a Special Sale on Saturday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at 8077 Wilkinsville Road. The special bag sale will be in affect all day.  Whatever you can put into a brown paper bag is $5.  All proceeds go to support the Library.  This may be our last book sale as we have lost our building.  For more information, call Bitha Luze at 872-3635.

The Garden Club of Rosemark will host a plant sale on Saturday on the grounds of Richland ARP Church in Rosemark. Sale hours will be 10 a.m. until noon. Stop by for a great selection of locally grown plants. For more information, contact Penny Glover at 873-1612.

Embury UMC Yard Sale for Missions will be hjeld Saturday at  8 a.m. at Norman’s Body Shop located at 4605 Shelby Road in Millington. For more information, call 876-5729.

Fishing with Fathers is designed to celebrate fathers with a fun day of fishing will be held this Saturday from 8 to noon at USA Stadium Lake located at 4351 Babe Howard Blvd. Awards will be given to the father and child team who catches the biggest fish and the most fish. No fishing license required and there is no fee to participate. For more information, call 873-5770.

June 10
A Taste of Tipton will be held June 10 from 5 to 8 p.m. at Brighton High Shcool. All proceeds will benefit Confidential Care for Women. For ticket prices and more information, call 476-6528.

June 12
A Book Signing Event with The Women of Duck Commander Kay, Korie, Missy, Jessica and Lisa Robertson will be held Thursday at 11 a.m. at Walmart located at 8445 Highway 51 North in Millington.

June 14
Community Yard Sale at West Union Cumberland Presbyterian Church, Saturday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Spaces are available for a fee.  To reserve a space call Sharon at 876-3265.

June 23-27
Register now for Playhouse 51’s Summer Puppet Theatre Workshop at Harvell Civic Center for students ages 7-17, Monday through Friday, June 23-27, from 8 a.m. to noon each day with a performance Friday, June 27, at 7 p.m. It will be a learning experience in the art and craftsmanship of theater through creating, building, and performing a puppet show based on “The Three Billy Goats Gruff,” dramatizing the story from both sides:  that of the Billy Goats and that of the Troll.

This Summer
NFL Pro Bowler and Carolina Panther star Greg Hardy is returning back to his hometown this summer for the I Go Hardy Camp for boys and girls. The football camp will be held July 12 for ages 6-17. The football camp is limited to 275. And there will be a cheerleading mini-camp for ages 6-12 that same day. The space there is limited to 25 spots. The camp will be held at Aycock Park with registration at 8 a.m. Then the camp will start at 9 a.m. and be completed at 2 p.m. Register at

This Summer
The Millington Trojan Basketball Camp 2014 will be held June 16-19 (9 a.m. to noon) and July 7-10 (noon to 3 p.m.). There is a cost and early registration discount if paid by May 31 making checks payable to Trojans Head Coach Rob Sabau. Included in the fee is a camp T-shirt and personal evaluation by coaches. Sabau will direct the camp with Trojan coaches and players as camp directors. Camp participants should come dress and ready to play basketball with basketball shoes, shorts, socks and T-shirt.
