Agnes Cantrell English

Agnes Cantrell English, beloved mother, grandmother and friend passed away peacefully on May 30, 2014 at the age of 87. Born April 7, 1927 in Smithville on a self -sustaining corn and tobacco farm to Robert and Luna Cantrell, she was also preceded in death by brothers Luther Mason, James Buford, and Eugene Cantrell. She leaves behind her devoted children: Judith Dawson (Mike) of Columbia, S.C., JoAnne English of Cordova, Ernest English, III of Crockett, California, and Debra English of Arlington, grandchildren Ethan Trimble of Arlington, Tenn., Tom Dawson (Sarah) of Durham, N.C and his daughter Fiona ; John Dawson of Asheville, N.C.; Amber Brown (Joe Marks) of Dublin, Ireland and her baby, Kipling; and Sierra Brown of Sierra Madre, Calif., nieces, nephews and former husband Ernest English, Jr. of Las Vegas. While participating in activities as a resident at the King’s Daughters and Sons Home, she remained close to her church home, First United Pentecostal Church of Millington. Her strong faith could be sensed by others in her patience; her gentle, caring ways; her courage facing adversity; her graciousness, sweet smiles and humor. Her early life was one of challenging adventures as the wife of a Navy pilot. She later worked at NAS Memphis, Automotive Jobbers, William R. Moore, and Holidays, and liked to read, play bridge and golf, cook, sew, do crafts and needlework. She was a loving, supportive mother, Sunday School teacher, den and room mother, Girl Scout leader, Little League mom, infant/toddler teacher, and friend. She is irreplaceable in our hearts, she will be deeply missed forever. The family wishes to express deepest gratitude to her church family and the compassionate caregivers and volunteers of KDHS. The funeral was held June 7, followed by graveside services Northridge Woodhaven Funeral Home’s Chapel and Cemetery in Millington. Memorials may be sent to the Kings’ Daughters and Sons Home, Caregivers’ Appreciation Fund, Attn. C. Logan, 3568 Appling Road, Bartlett, TN 38133; or Tupelo Children’s Mansion, PO Box 167, Tupelo, MS. 38802. Northridge Woodhaven Funeral Home. A memorial service will be held at 2:00 pm. on Sunday, July 6 at the King’s Daughters and Sons Home.

Oveta Katherine Key, 84, of Brighton, passed away on Sunday June 8, 2014. Ms. Key’s service was held at the Covington Funeral Home Chapel. Burial took place at the Indian Creek Cemetery in Brighton. She is survived by her son James (Mandy) Key of Brighton; one sister Bettye Jean Fox Forbess of Millington; two grandchildren, Scott key of Brighton and Kelly Middleton of Manilla, Ark., and two great grandchildren, Carson and Conner Middleton of Manilla. She was preceded in death by her husband, Nolan Key and three sisters, Hattie Grooms Fox Cheetwood, Frances Fox and Imogene Fox Wilburn, and five brothers, Ernest Goble Fox, Thomas Edward Fox, Kern Fox, Herbert Franklin Fox and Joe Charles Fox.
