There were many faces of enjoyment at the 2014 Flag City Freedom Celebration like sisters Audrina Hernandez, 7 months, and Aria Hernandez, 21-months. The Flag City Freedom Celebration: Independence Day Spectacular was held July 3 at Navy Lake. Several residents from the Mid-South made their way to Millington for the event presented by the Naval Support Activity Mid-South and the city of Millington. The event was sponsored by HNA Engineering, Republic Services, Homer Skelton Ford, Homer Skelton Chrysler, Dodge and Jeep and Clear channel/ROCK103. Gates opened at 5 p.m. and the fireworks show started at 9 p.m. as the grand finale. There was children’s play area and a music performance by the Navy Band Mid-South The Freedom (Rock Band). After the 20-minute fireworks dispay came to conclusion, The Freedom closed out the night celebrating the Nation’s 238th birthday. There were several highlights of fun like 8-year-old Maceala Wolf tossing an American ball with her father. Sarah Simon, 4, tackled the bubble obstacle course in her record time. There were several displays of patriotism like 11-year-old Houston Miles starry hairstyle. Kevin Reilly, a soccer player, wore his American Flag soccer socks. Other who didn’t have on stars and stripes were in luck with the Millington Exchange Club handing out American Flags to all attending.
