The Tipton-Rosemark Academy got the 2014 season off to a hot start in the second quarter Friday night against Tupelo Christian Prep leading to a 36-0 victory.
After jumping ahead 8-0 in the first quarter behind an AJ Hightower run, the junior quarterback used his arm to get the Rebels rollings in the second quarter. TRA went ahead 15-0 when Hightower found Logan Stewart for a 25-yard TD reception.
Then Hightower went back on the attack with his legs running for a 78-yard TD. The Rebels capped off the big quarter using defense to go ahead 29-0. Stewart made a pick-six from 39 yards out. Hightower to Stewart in the third quarter concluded the scoring for the evening. TRA will continue the Mississippi portion of its schedule hosting Tunica Academy this Friday with a 7 p.m. kickoff.
Up in Tipton County the Brighton Cardinals and Munford Cougars got off to winning starts for 2014. The Cougars beat rival the Covington Chargers 10-7. The Cougars will open their home schedule this Friday against Manassas.
The Cardinals won their season opener over the Carver Cobras 38-6 behind touchdowns from Breeland Austin, Terrel Wayne White, Zach Camp and quarterback Austin Kelley. Brighton place kicer Austin Chapman nailed a 40-yard field goal in the scoring outburst. Kelley passed for 155 yards in addition to his 12-yard TD run in his debut as Brighton’s signal caller. The Cardinals will travel to Millington this Friday for a 7 p.m. kickoff.
