CHARLES ALAN COOK
Charles Alan Cook, U.S. Navy Master Chief, Ret.) died in Escondido, Calif., on Aug. 17, 2014 from Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS). He was born in Virginia in 1949. He graduated from high school in Millington. He enlisted the Navy in 1968 and retired after 30 years. He is survived by his wife Beatriz Sabalbarino Cook, his sons, Bertito Charles, Richard David Cook, brothers Rodney Cook of Millington and Steven Cook of Evansville, Ind., his 9 grandchildren, and 3 great-grandchildren. His drink of choice was bourbon and coke. He was not picky, whiskey would do in a pinch. Services were held at Miramar National Cemetery on Aug. 27.
JERRY E. LONG
Jerry E. Long, 74, of Millington, in loving memory of “Chief” Jerry Earl Long, born Oct. 27, 1939 in Birmingham, Ala., who leaves us in his 74th year. He passed away Aug. 10, 2014 at home. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy for 26 years and was a deacon of East Acres Baptist Church. Jerry was preceded in death by his mother, Iris Maylene Long and his father, Earl Andrew Long and an infant brother, Eugene Long. Survivors include his loving wife of 52 years, Patsy Jane (Schroeder) Long. He also leaves a sister, Judy Lee Long, as well as threes sons, Kerry Earl Long, David Eugene Long, Paul Andrew Long and a daughter Amy LeAnn Long. He was a loving grandfather of 14 grandchildren, six great grandchildren and a friend and father figure to many. Funeral services were held Aug. 14 at Northridge Woodahven Funeral Home in Millington. Burial was at Northridge Woodhaven Cemetery. Northridge Woodhaven Funeral Home 872-3375.
